President's Pen

Four of us met for our coffee conversation last Thursday morning to discover that as of last week, The Stables plan to now only open for lunch and so we moved to the cafe in front of and below the grandstand at Victoria Park and the coffee was good.

Last Wed. five of us attended the Adelaide Club's weekly luncheon where the guest speaker was the Premier, Stephen Marshall who was outstanding and also fielded questions from the floor.

After discussion between John W. and Richard J., the Board have purchased a new computer to take advantage of the technical facilities at the Ibis and give us greater confidence when guest speakers require these facilities.

John W. has also purchased a new cricket bag to hold the club's gear for our meetings which we will store at the Ibis.

Thank you to Yvette Reade for a splendid piece about our recently completed Catherine House project on page 22/23 in the March edition of Rotary Down Under.

Di, Yvette and myself have been included in the Norwood Rotary Club's BBQ. Roster at Bunning's Mile End for Friday 22nd. March which will assist our fundraising budget. We have still to hear the details of our fundraising activities selling donuts at the Scout Jamboree in January.

A reminder that the Rotaract Club's Annual Quiz Night is on Friday 24th. May at Pulteney Grammar School.

Our club's board meeting is planned for this coming Thursday 21st. March at the Ibis immediately after our breakfast meeting and a reminder to bring your badge.

Adelaide City Rotaract Quiz Night

Adelaide City Rotaract Club are holding their annual quiz night at Pulteney Grammar School on May 24 2019.

This year we are focusing on a project to help provide primary school students with essential school equipment. Schools in low socio-econimic areas often have students join their school in the middle of a term and the students arrive with little or no school equipment. Our goal is to provide enough back packs, pencil cases and other essential items such as toothbrushes and socks so that when a new student arrives schools can provide them with a pack on their arrival.

The night will be "Back 2 Skool" themed so wear your best first-day-of-term outfit, bring some money for the canteen and practice your quick-maths!

The Four Way Test

The Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:

  1. Is it the Truth?
  2. Is it Fair to all concerned?
  3. Will it build Goodwill and better Friendships?
  4. Will it be Beneficial to all concerned?

Affirmation

United in the spirit of Service we value truth, fairness and friendship; and we welcome the opportunity that Rotary gives us to contribute our talents and resources in support of others.

Rotary Club of Adelaide Light Mission Statement

Jokes Corner

I was in the six item express lane at the store quietly fuming. Completely ignoring the sign, the woman ahead of me had slipped into this check-out line pushing a cart piled high with groceries.

Imagine my delight when the cashier beckoned the woman to come forward looked into the cart and asked sweetly, "So which six items would you like to buy?"
