Four local Rotarians toured Honduras in March...

Four local Rotarians, Ken Lavy and Jack Cross of the Delphi Rotary Club, Brian Wagoner of the Flora club, and Jim Hunt of the Monticello club toured Honduras in March.  During their trip they visited the town of Tres de Octobre, a community of about 700 people.  This is the location of a $27,000 water project spearheaded by the Delphi Rotary Club.  The project included running a water line from a small reservoir about 2-3 miles up a mountain from the village, building a 10,000 gallon water tank and then running water lines through the streets (dirt roads) of the community with a distribution box at each residence.  The project was completed ahead of schedule and under budget, so steps are being taken to run water lines to each house in the village.

"We think this will have a positive affect on this community including decreasing infant mortality." reported Ken Lavy of the Delphi club.

The group of Rotarians, traveling with friend & translator, Miguel Lieva, also delivered 230 Spanish/English dictionaries to local schools, attended a surprise party organized by the district mayor, searched for potential future projects by looking at two communities that are also in need of water, toured a farm, a coffee plantation, a banana plantation, and the Mayan Ruins, and attended a Rotary meeting.

It was a very interesting and worthwhile trip.
