David W. Weishaar, 60, of 322 W. North St., died at 5:53 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at his home. He had battled cancer since October 2005.  David was a former Delphi Rotary member and will be missed.

DELPHI -- David W. Weishaar, 60, of 322 W. North St., died at 5:53 a.m. Saturday, April 10, 2010, at his home. He had battled cancer since October 2005.

He was born Jan. 19, 1950, in Rensselaer, to Lena Wallace Weishaar of Brook and the late Russell Wayne Weishaar. He was a 1968 graduate of South Newton High School and attended Indiana State University at Terre Haute, studying education for 11/2 years.

His marriage was to Connie J. Mayhew in Kentland on Nov. 24, 1979, and she survives.

He served three years as a military policeman in the Army, stationed at Fort Riley, Kan.

From 1977 to 1979 he was co-owner of a seafood restaurant in Memphis, Tenn., then started in the retail grocery business 1987, working for Wallmann's Quality Foods at Rensselaer, then came to Delphi and became co-owner of Wallmann's Quality Foods in 1994. He sold his interest in the business and retired due to health in 2007.

An avid golfer, he was a member of Carroll County Country Club, playing on the men's golf league for many years, and was on the board of directors; a former member of Delphi Rotary Club; and a member of Delphi American Legion Post 75.

Surviving with his wife and mother are two sons, Michael Weishaar (wife: Tabatha) and Blake Weishaar (wife: Katie), both of Carmel; a sister, MariAnn Weishaar of Kentland; and a brother, Philip "Phil" Weishaar (wife: Noelle) of Rensselaer.

He dearly loved his family, two grandchildren, Landon and Lainey Weishaar, and many friends and co-workers.

Friends may call Monday at Abbott Funeral Home, Delphi, 5-8 p.m. Service there Tuesday 10 a.m., the Rev. Ed Selvidge officiating. Friends may call at Gerts Funeral Home, Brook from 1 p.m. (CDT) until his service at 2 p.m. (CDT) Tuesday, Pastor Sue Beckett officiating. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Brook.
