STARS Class Gives Back!![]() Our newest Club members (STARS Group) embraced the spirit of Rotary yesterday and donated their time and effort to help the Polk PACE Center for Girls by painting the hallways and a bathroom. In addition to the paint and supplies needed for this work, the group is also donating a vacuum for use at the Center. We are so proud of their hard work and generosity for a worthwhile local cause! The members of this STARS class are Dan Borneman, Lynne Wiekert, Mark McRae, Greg Smith, Bill Rhey, Mike Carter, Frank Rebecky, and Mike Zellars. A shout out to Chris, an employee of Lakeland Belk, who donated his time and effort toward this project also. The Lakeland Rotary Club recently donated funds to help the Lakeland Fire Department purchase equipment for a new rescue boat. The Lakeland Fire Department will be holding a ceremony to "christen" the new boat and celebrate this collaboration with our Club. This ceremony will feature guest speakers from the Lakeland Fire Department and our club, a guest of honor to christen the boat, and a demonstration of the boat in action. You are invited to help celebrate this great partnership! WHEN: Wednesday, July 15th, 10:00 - 10:30 AM WHERE: Lake Mirror Promenade (near the volunteerism sculpture) We hope to see you there! |

The Rotary Playground in Hernando’s Landing on the shores of Lake Parker will be designed around the history of Florida and the joy of discovery. Veterans Day Lt. Col. Blatt told us that Soldiers are Soldiers for life. They carry that training and character into their private lives and occupations. And today a much smaller part of our citizens are Veterans. He said that by 2014 our latest Wars will have created 517,000 veterans. To put that in perspective, 57 million returned from WWII resulting in the creation of the GI Bill that helped them re-enter society. |
