Stacy Campbell-Domineck announced this week’s Guest, Brian West, Community Relations Manager at Publix. Brian began by reminiscing about the last time he spoke to our club in person (2019) and then virtually in 2020. He then discussed how 4Rivers BBQ is going to be breaking ground soon and will be located on an outparcel in front of GreenWise Publix in South Lakeland. Brian discussed how Publix responded to supply chain issues in 2020 by purchasing excess supply that was going to be wasted due to a lack of transportation and donating the food to charities. So far, Publix has purchased and donated over 65 million pounds of produce. Brian discussed the reasons for closing and rebuilding the Oakbridge location. The store should reopen sometime in 2023. Brian discussed Publix's recent growth – there are currently 1,305 stores, and they are opening up their first stores in Kentucky soon in Louisville & Lexington. Thank you, Brian for visiting our club, sharing some of the things happening at Publix, and bringing us Ice Cream.
President Amanda closed with her word of the week: Surfeit (n), which means an overabundance supply or indulgence.
The program on Tuesday, September 13th is “Success in Exile - Five Decades of Cuban Stories” by Teresa Martinez-Institute of Spanish Communication.
