President Carol opened the meeting, and called on Mike Loudon to handle the invocation, pledge and Four-Way Test.
Julie Townsend introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians.
Happy Dollars were collected by Deedra Knight.
Shane Glor and Celine Dufresne were at the Head Table this week.
For announcements, President Carol reminded us about a group outing to the ISO Spooky Symphony on 10/29.
Kevin McWilliams, president of the Lakeland South club, visited to let us know about the “Lakelandopoly” games they have available. They are using these custom board games as a fundraiser and will be back at the meetings to give us a chance to pick some up.
Sarah Breed told us about the annual Christmas program. Rebecca Borneman has volunteered to head it up again, and anyone interested in helping out should see her.
Xuchitl Coso, who is on the Lakeland Vision Board, and is chair of the award committee, announced the winner of the Cygnet Award – our very own Julie Townsend.
President Carol talked to us about Polio Awareness Month in October, and shared her own family’s experience with polio.
Xuchitl introduced our program: Olga Chao, who has a long history as an art appraiser, talked about the economics of art. It was a fascinating look behind the scenes of the art world. Her focus was on the need for art dealers and for galleries as the main avenue for artists to become established and potentially make a decent living. Lakeland has some wonderful people and places involved in the art world, such as the Polk Museum of Art and Platform Art, but no real galleries to speak of.
50/50: Tammi Crotteau handled the cards and Bill Sammons pulled the JOKER! So we split the pot and start over.
Next program: Tom Wagner with a Rotary Foundation update..
