President Carol opened our virtual meeting and called on Amanda Walls to handle the invocation, pledge and Four-Way Test.
Carol introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians.
Happy Dollars was an “open mic” and everyone took turns.
For announcements, our own Mark Scolnick, who was recently installed as District Governor, reminded us that the Rotary International convention was to begin this past Saturday as a virtual event. He encouraged us to check it out. It runs through the 26th and you can learn more here.
Carol also reminded us that we could donate our lunch money to the Rotary Annual Fund. Sign in to your rotary account here and take care of it. Or you can mail a check to our P.O. Box 2171, Lakeland 33806. She asked that we do it before 6/30 so we can get to our donation goal for the Rotary year. We’re now up to $168 each in lunch money we haven’t spent.
President Carol also let us know that it was time to pay our annual dues. You can do it online here and here for Rule of 85 Members.
We also have the fourth district-wide event town-hall style event coming up. This will explore racism in America and how Rotarians may respond and help bring people together. It will feature Brian Butler, CEO of Vistra Communications in Tampa, who is the author of the recent Tampa Bay Times column entitled “I’m a CEO, a retired Army officer and a black man.” Join the meeting at 6pm on Tuesday by using this link, or by starting Zoom and joining the meeting with this info: Meeting ID: 821 4659 2889, Password: 1905
And President-elect Joel Ivy said our Mega Pantry event went well on June 15, and that another was coming June 22. He also invited us to volunteer at the Mega-Pack events coming up. Those still left are on Monday, June 29, and July 6th  at Lakes Church (formerly First Baptist Church at the Mall), 1010 E. Memorial Blvd, Lakeland, FL 33801. Learn more here or sign up here
President Carol then had the privilege to induct three new members. Rabbi David Goldstein, who was sponsored by Mark Scolnick; Lucas Martin, who is transferring from the Lakeland Christina Club; and Kim Esposito, who is sponsored by Joni Tyler, became our newest Rotarians!
Carol then switched over to a video prepared by Dorsey Hightower, who presented the Club’s annual Four-Way Test Award to our own Grady Judd. This award is given to a member of the Community, not from our Club. Though Grady is a longtime Rotarian in Winter Haven!
And we had a note from member Larry Rankin, about donating blood: Now Rotary donors can choose where they wish to donate at any date, any time. Visit, scroll down on the first page to, “Where can I donate - Find Donor Location." Fill in contact information, ZIP code, location and miles range. Write Lakeland Rotary donor code 16859. Make an appointment by selecting date and time.
Our Program was introduced by Gwinnell Jarvis and it was an update from our Sheriff, Grady Judd. He took this opportunity to open up the floor for questions instead of giving his prepared remarks. Our members had a lot of great questions and Sheriff Judd is always a wonderful program!
Next program: Christina Graham, executive director of Catapult..
