President Joel opened his first virtual meeting as president after we had an extra week off so we could all rest up for his year.  He called on Mike Louden to handle the invocation, pledge and Four-Way Test.

Trey Harden introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians.

Joel took care of Happy Dollars.

For announcements, our new treasurer, Julie “vice grips” Townsend suggested we pay our dues if we know what’s good for us. (You can do it here: Pay Annual Dues - Rule of 85 Members, or Pay Annual Dues - Regular Members)

President Joel reminded us about the installation event that was Tuesday night for Mark Scolnick, our new District Governor. And Mark let us know how much he was looking forward to serving Rotary this year.

Jack Lowman gave us the details on the luau that was set for Saturday (7/18) at his house. Jack wanted to bring a little of Hawaii here to help celebrate the start of Joel’s year since his trip to Hawaii for the International Convention was canceled.

President Joel then started his program. We got some background on Joel, including his Texas roots, which explains a LOT. Then he talked about the theme and goals of Rotary International, and how all the amazing things our Club does ties in so well with this. We are in uncertain times for sure, so we will have to adjust as we go, but it is the hope that most of our events happen, especially the ones in the spring. The Mercedes golf tourney has been cancelled, but Joel has challenged Jack and Trey to put on something safe and local, and raise at least $5k.

Next program: Mayor Bill Mutz with a City of Lakeland update.
