President Carol opened the meeting, and called on Karen Moore to handle the invocation, pledge and Four-Way Test.
Tammi Crotteau introduced our guests and visiting Rotarians.
Happy Dollars were collected by Stacy Williams.
Carol Catanzarite and Dan Fowler were at the Head Table this week.
For Singing, Bill Lippy led us in a rendition of “When You’re Smiling.”
For announcements, President Carol reminded us about the event on Wednesday to assemble trauma packs for three more schools: Lawton Chiles Middle School, Blake Academy, and Magnolia Montessori Academy. We are meeting at Lakeland Fire Station 7 (3150 Drane Field Rd-airport) from 7:30-8:30 am. Coffee and doughnuts are being provided.
Jim Russell then came up to give us the totals for the Salvation Army bell-ringing campaign this season. The Lakeland clubs raised almost $15,000 in 22 days (last year we had 27)! Our Club alone raised more than $8,000 in the 7 days we rang the bell. Jim also presented a token of appreciation to those who rang the most: Kathy Abels, Melody Rider, Jack Lowman, and Dan Gargas. He also presented a token of appreciation to Chuck McDanal for handling the electronic sign-up platform.
Sarah Breed introduced our program, which was Leon Battle from One More Child. This is the new name for what most of us know as Florida Baptist Children’s Home. Leon serves as Vice President of Strategic Partnerships.
One More Child has multiple areas of focus all designed to help children and their families. This includes foster care, anti-trafficking, and helping single moms and families learn to be healthy and independent. They also work tirelessly to feed students who often go hungry all weekend when they are not getting food from school. They pack enough food every week to feed thousands of children. Learn more here. And after Leon’s presentation, we gathered to help pack food for children.
50/50: Steve Miller handled the cards and Bill Sammons drew a 6.
Next program: Mark Scolnick with a polio update.
