President Amanda Walls called the meeting to order, and Don Selvage led the invocation, pledge, and Four-Way Test.
Steph Colon introduced the guests and visiting Rotarians. Jim McClelland was a visiting Rotarian from Indianapolis. Fred Lintz was a guest of Lucas Marrin. Kylia Carswell was a guest of Reba Coil. Jan Townsend & Fatih Carr were guests of Julie Townsend. James King was a guest of Alice Hunt. Karen Warren was a guest of Rick Maxey.
Happy Dollars were collected by Gwen Allen. Larry Becker was happy about his grandson, who will be working to attend the Naval Academy. Melody Rider was happy about her beloved San Francisco 49ers. Alice Hunt was happy about Congressman Scott Franklin speaking to our club on March 14th. Stacy Campbell-Domineck was happy about her son transferring to play football at the University of Colorado. Michelle Ledford was happy about her 25th anniversary and the birth of her first granddaughter. Ryan McClelland was happy about his new family cat. Stephanie Bowes was happy for “My Pets” and mentioned to Ryan to come to visit!
President Amanda began announcements by mentioning the Kiwanis vs. Rotary Basketball game on February 10th. Tickets are available on the Lakeland Magic website. Irma Cole mentioned that a Rotary Group from Peru will be in Lakeland from the 15th through the 19th of February. Please contact Marth Lou if you would like to be a host family.
Nate Dunahm asked for assistance with the final Know & Grow, which is this Monday & Tuesday at Crystal Lake Elementary. Please volunteer if you are able. President Amanda mentioned that we are seeking sponsors for the 20th Spring Obsession and to contact Melody Rider for more details.
President Amanda introduced the program. Melody Rider presented on “Lakeland LEADS” which was founded only a few years ago and is a local non-profit to help connect business leaders with helping our local school districts. The executive board includes David Hallock, Jeff Chamberlain, Brian Philpot, Jack Harrell, and Ashley Bell Barnett, among others. Melody was hired in 2022 to be the new executive director. She mentioned how when business and education leaders join forces, the success of schools becomes a community responsibility. There are four key impact areas: early education, career readiness, innovative educational model, and adopting a school.  Thank you to Melody for presenting to our club and for all of your efforts to improve our local school districts.
President Manda then assisted with the election of the new Rotary Board, which includes Carol Wallace, Michael Huff, Irma Cole and Josie Hill. Congrats to each of you. President Amanda then announced the new President Elect Elecct of our Club – Marcia Leap. She thanked our club and its leaders and mentioned how this is the third female President in a row for our club.
President Amanda concluded the program with her word of the week: pertinacious, which means stubbornly persistent.
