RI President's Dinner & Polio Fundraiser - Phil Calderbank
Members from RCHR and The Sunrise club attended the Presidents Dinner on Friday, Jan 25th. The event is attended by Rotary Clubs from across Colorado and is hosted by our District 5450. Once again, we were honored to be able to see and meet with Barry Rassin; Rotary International President, 2018-19. Barry gave an impassioned speech. His main topics were the Eradication of Polio. Still just a few cases showing up in Pakistan. So the fight is not yet won. Please give your support to this global cause. Every single dollar helps. A thousand donations of $10 are just as valuable as one donation of $10,000, and so please think to give something, no matter what. Barry also spoke about the need for change in Rotary. We cannot just continue as we have been doing. In the last year Rotary membership was deleted by almost 300,000 people. Taken from a membership of 1.2 million, the loss represents almost 25%. Barry feels that Rotary is getting old and needs to become more attractive to younger members. He asks every club to spend time and think what can be done to attract younger members; perhaps some of our own younger members can come up with some ideas; Mark, Mindy, Ari? Finally Barry urged us all to become more involved. Read your Rotary magazine, look at your ClubRunner and Wheel Spinner sites. Get involved; at District and International level, and not just local. Come up with a new idea for a project and be the agent of change within your club. Pictures include just some of our members from the night.
Yes, that's Mckenzie Perdue, our Rotartaction President, who shared lunch and Rotartaction with President Rassin.
World Affairs Challenge - Phil Calderbank
You may know that our club has been working with the World Affairs Challenge (WAC) here in Denver. https://www.worldaffairschallenge.org We have brought together a joint team from Costa Rica and Denver IB schools. The team in Costa Rica is working beautifully with the team in CO Springs on building a library in Puriscal, Costa Rica. The final for this year's WAC is on March 2nd and will be held here in Denver. There will be 7 students and 3 teachers coming to the WAC event in March from Costa Rica. The team from Harrison High School in CO Springs is sending students to Costa Rica later in the spring to finish the library project. We are now looking for some help. We need to know if you would consider being a judge? Please see the link to the sign-up page, or let me know. https://www.worldaffairschallenge.org/judge
