NN Non Profit for Ghana
Feb. 28, 2019
Grant Requester Background Ben Wolfe is a former Rotarian in Castle Pines and has been a school teacher in the area of Castle Rock for seven years. For the past three years, he has he has traveled to Ghana, Africa with groups of students, teachers and parents from Colorado. This past year, Ben founded the nonprofit organisation Colorado To Ghana with the purpose to empower local students in Colorado to raise funds and supplies to support NGOs in Ghana. The nonprofit supported this purpose during the October 2018 program, which proven to be most successful. One of organisations that Colorado To Ghana supports is Challenging Heights. Challenging Heights is a grassroots NGO dedicated to ending child trafficking, reducing child slavery, and promoting children’s rights in Ghana. They have worked for over a decade to eradicate child trafficking at Lake Volta. Since the 1950’s, fisherman have brought children against their will to work under hazardous conditions on this man-made lake. Through our partnership with Challenging Heights, students in Colorado have gained an education in Ghanaian culture and the socio-economic issues surrounding child trafficking. The students have developed a strong affiliation with multiple local schools with the opportunity to support a life changing cause and to learn about a country they otherwise would not be able to experience.
