This week Four Health Family Resource Center (FHFRC) shared about their unique role in the Lowell (LAS) and Saranac Area Schools.
FHFRC is a non-profit counseling and education center serving Ionia and Kent County and the surrounding areas since 2003. They are located in Saranac and in the FROM building.
They never turn a client away due to ability to pay. Working with insurances and financial scholarships, they make sure everyone receives the help they need.
The four in FHFRC comes from the four areas they focus on in life, supporting a client’s and family's social, physical, emotional and spiritual growth throughout their lifespan.
FHFRC started in the LAS in 2016 with a pilot program financed by a donation. This grew into Bridging the Gap, with a $20,000 budget from the schools. 2018 had 147 students served and 2019 saw the number increase to 411. There is currently a waiting list. The need is growing, but funding and resources are lacking. FHFRC continually looks for ways to fund the program (insurance, donations, grants, etc).
Bridging the Gap students are referred by the school to FHFRC. Each student is given individualized care, with the number of sessions and length of therapy. Some just meet during the school year and others year round.
