KDL Representatives spoke on the great programs offered by the Kent District Library and the Lowell branch.  They have books, movies, magazines, music and much more.  Some of their unique programs include the following:
  • Lab space that is dedicated to encourage kids to explore and make things.
  • Beyond Books for 18+ years of age.
  • Digital Collection - largest in the state - the audio collection is great as one can increase the font size as well as select a font for those who are dyslectic.
  • In-house computers as well as 10 laptops and 30 hotspots that can be checked out for a three week period of time.
  • Self paced training can be explored through Lynda.com from the Michigan Electronic Library, career skills training such as excel programs and much more.
  • Lowell patrons have requested programs from games to thermal cameras.
  • They also specialize in unique databases; entrepreneur study source, business reference USA list, investor value line, Lowell Ledger beginning in 1870 and ancestry.com
  • Incredible outreach program that reaches out into the community.  The schools will visit retirement communities and "crash" parties, bringing games and books.
  • Offers tutoring of certain programs in 45 minute block times.
  • Patron audio books which include "Talking Books and Braille Center".  Braille is becoming electronic.
Fun Facts:
