Community Center/John Sterly, Bob Rogers and Mike Burns spoke regarding a proposed community center.
John Sterly asked if this idea is something the Rotarians would support and have a possible partnership in. It was noted a community committee is being formed and several locations have been discussed.
Mike Burns stated the City and the Fairgrounds are renegotiating the lease agreement and does not know if this could be a possible location. The DDA is funding a feasibility study and community engagement is encouraged. A steering committee of 20 plus people should be developed and the process would run approximately 8 to 12 weeks. Concerns with the site at the fairgrounds include flood issues, WWTP needs to expand and the property is next to an active industrial site. Other ideas discussed was a campground and a farmers market. Burns also noted the YMCA has completed a needs assessment.
Bob Rogers noted other possible locations include the Impact Church site on Lincoln Lake, the new fairgrounds location or possibly several locations which would include a centrally located site with smaller sites to the north, south, east and west.
