Telluride Rotary is seeking donations to support scholarships for deserving college-bound high school seniors from Telluride and Norwood. Would you please consider making a donation through the Donate Now button on our website menu? You may also donate other ways; please see below.
Last year, our club awarded $2000 to Rowen Kelly Warren (pictured here), an exceptional graduate of Telluride High, so he could study Engineering at CU Boulder. “I was able to pay 90 percent of my tuition by using a mix of local and national scholarships, and supplement the rest from my savings, without having to take out a loan,” says Rowen. “It is a wonderful relief to know that I do not have to worry about paying off a balance. Scholarships like the Rotary Scholarship didn’t just enable me to go to an amazing college, but also gave me peace of mind and allowed me to focus on what matters.”
“For as long as I can remember, the Telluride Rotary Club has been an active and vital participant in our Local Scholarship Night,” says Karen Lavender, who retired last year as college counselor at Telluride High. “These scholarships have proved essential in terms of ‘gap funding’—that is, helping students and their families cover the gap between the actual cost of college and the financial aid they receive from the institutions to which they matriculate. These scholarships have time and again allowed our local youth to realize their highest aspirations for higher education. I am so grateful for Rotary’s support!”

The club’s special Service Above Self award for outstanding community service, and a $2000 academic scholarship, went to Telluride High School senior Rowen Kelly Warren. Rowen has demonstrated exceptional service by leveraging his expertise and passion for radio communication and emergency response to assist several regional agencies with wildfire response, search and rescue, and he has also volunteered for the sheriff’s office and medical center. He’s an athlete, actor and high-achieving student. Telluride Rotary is proud to support his education at CU Boulder’s College of Engineering.
Telluride Rotary also is pleased to award two additional scholarships to hard-working and high-achieving students: a $1000 vocational education scholarship to Telluride High School senior Juan Pablo Flores, who will advance his skills in welding at Western Colorado Community College; and the $500 John Micetic Memorial Athletic Scholarship goes to Norwood High School student Jenna Baugh for her outstanding athletic achievements.
Our club seeks to expand its scholarship fund in the coming year from $3500 to at least $10,000, to offer more support to talented and deserving high school seniors in our county. Please support this effort by making a tax-deductible donation by using the “Donate” tab on the menu above.
