September has zoomed by and as we enter into the month of October, a new quarter, and the changing seasons, I think it is important to reflect on our Rotary theme this year of Creating Hope in the World and the specific focus on mental health. This first week of October is Mental Illness Awareness Week and the National Alliance on Mental Illness shares how "each year, millions of Americans face the reality of living with a mental health condition — but mental illness affects everyone directly or indirectly through family, friends or coworkers. That is why each year, during the first week of October, NAMI and participants across the country raise awareness, fight discrimination, and provide support."
Earlier this Rotary year our District Governor, Greg Sund, spoke about Mental Health First Aid Colorado, an organization that provides an 8-hour training that teaches individuals how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illness and substance use disorders. Be sure to also register for the District Conference taking place at The Antlers Hotel Oct. 13 -15th. For the opening dinner, the Keynote Speaker is Johnny Crowder who gives audiences practical self-care tools and mental health strategies that people can start using now to improve their emotional health and wellbeing.
This week we return to the Double Tree Hotel where our speaker Lt. Col Jason Harris will share with us the No Fail Trust: A Flight Plan to Cultivating a High Performing Team.
