On Friday and Saturday (May 3rd/4th), COSILoveYou City Serve Day is taking place across the city with many volunteer opportunities supporting several non-profits and schools. There is still 1 spot open to join our club at Care and Share on May 4th from 9AM - 12PM to assist in cleaning up their outdoor garden beds.
Also on Saturday, May 4th from 2 - 5PM the Broadmoor Rotary Club is hosting their 2nd Annual Kentucky Derby Watch Party at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. The cost to attend is $40 and tickets can be purchased HERE. Learn more from their flyer below.
On May 7th at 6PM at the Pikes Peak Center on Cascade Avenue, Rotary Champions will recognize nearly over 180 outstanding scholar-athletes from 20 high schools in the area. There is no charge to attend the event. All Rotarians and community members are invited to take part in the recognition of amazing high school scholar-athletes! This week we will be joined by Tyler Lyson, the curator of vertebrate paleontology at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science. He will share how Colorado Springs is tied to the extinction of dinosaurs and the rise of Mammals.

Mental Health is a major focus of Rotary International and we are grateful to have David and Ray joining us to share about their lived experiences of mental health in the workplace. Following their presentation we will continue our outreach to the community by hosting a table at the NAMIWalks event on Saturday, May 11th and we are hosting a Zoom Lunch and Learn to explore more on the vital importance of Mental Health in the business community.

How Colorado Springs is Tied to the Extinction of the Dinosaurs and the Rise of the Mammals
Dr. Tyler Lyson is curator of vertebrate paleontology at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, where he is responsible for the fossil reptile collection. His research focuses on the early origin and evolution of reptiles, particularly turtles, as well as the driver(s) and tempo of the Cretaceous-Paleogene mass extinction and subsequent ecosystem recovery. He is working on projects in the Denver Basin in Colorado, Williston Basin in North Dakota and Montana, and Karoo Basin in South Africa.
Lyson received his Ph.D. and M.A. in geology and paleontology from Yale University, and his B.A. from Swarthmore College. Lyson was a postdoctoral researcher at the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History before joining the Denver Museum in 2014.
