Emily Hoover earns $30K Global Grant Scholarship
Some of you may have met Emily Hoover this past year when she visited our club.  Emily is a school teacher in Harrison D2 and applied last year through our club for a Rotary Global Grant Scholarship valued at $30,000.  Her application was endorsed by our club and forwarded to the District 5740 Scholarship Committee for consideration.  Following review of her application and an in-person interview, Emily was selected by the district to compete at the Rotary Foundation level for the scholarship to study at the University of Cambridge for a Master's Degree.

Emily was notified on April 11, 2017 that she had been awarded the $30,000 scholarship for study in the Basic Education & Literacy Area of Focus starting in September of this year at Cambridge.  The Rotary Club of Cambridge Sawston will be her host club this coming year.  She'll also have an opportunity in late September to gather for a weekend retreat with all of the Global Grant Scholars and Peace Fellows studying in the UK and Ireland -- all sponsored by the UK & Ireland Rotary districts.

We'll have Emily visit our club before she leaves so you can get an opportunity to meet her.  Another great example of your Rotary Foundation doing good in the world.

Palmer Walk for Water  - This Saturday
***Walk for Water***: Palmer High School’s Interact Club has been working diligently to raise money for Rotary’s water project and have already raised over $10,000. The project was originally going to be in Nicaragua but has since moved to somewhere in Africa, most likely in Kenya. All of the proceeds will go to a water project of some sort. The next fundraiser event, Walk for Water, will be held on April 22nd starting at 9 am at the small gym parking lot (in the block north of Palmer High School on Nevada Avenue). The event will be a 5K walk along Fountain Creek and will have a $20 entry fee. The students will be asking for pledges from friends and family members, and Rotarians are more than welcome to do the same. However, all the Interact Club is asking from Rotarians is for the $20 entry fee and some light walking. I would really like to see a great turnout for this event as the students are raising money for one of our very own projects. This will also take the place of our normal Earth Day Clean-Up day for April. If you have more questions, please let me or Carol Bach know.
