Tuesday was Election Day. I hope everyone was able to get their vote in. As Americans, we have the ability to elect our leaders - not so for so many others around the world. Let's celebrate that we have this special privilege. We also need to thank the veterans who served in our military, protecting our freedoms, including the right to vote. This Friday is perfect timing to do so, as it is Veteran's Day. In keeping with the holiday, we will have a special program in honor and celebration of those who are former members of our country's armed forces.
As I promised, since this month is Rotary Foundation month, I'm featuring another part of our District Governor's email about the Foundation. First, a reminder from last week, if you haven't done so already this year, try to squeeze out $25 from your budget and make a donation to the Rotary Foundation's Annual Fund. That way we can be an Every Rotarian, Every Year Club.
An important reason to give to the Rotary Foundation's Annual fund is to increase the funds available for your own club’s District Grants as well as Global Grants from the District. About one-half of what you give to the Annual Fund this year comes back to our District three years from now as DDF or District Designated Funds. A sizable portion of DDF is what’s available to your local clubs for matching District Grants that funds club projects in your local communities. Last year our District ran out of funds to grant by March, and this year the amount available to grant is even less. Let's see if we can turn that trend around this year.
Check out the community service section of the newsletter. We have lots going on with so many different ways and opportunities to serve our community. It doesn't hurt that we have a fun time doing it with our fellow Rotarians!

Our speaker this week is Rotarian Tom Tudor speaking about the Tomb of the Unknowns. Next week's speaker is Jerome Wade speaking on LEADING ON EMPTY: MOVE BEYOND SURVIVING TO THRIVING. Jerome Wade, CSP, is an author, international speaker, and an advisor to executives and sales professionals. Leveraging the power of story from Jerome’s global adventures and experiences (Trekking to Everest Base Camp, Summiting Mt. Machu Picchu, Exploring the Amazon, Kayaking the Grand Canyon, Sailing the Caribbean, and more), clients and audiences are inspired to live and lead at the top of their game. It promises to be an amazing presentation.

For the past 25 years, Tom Tudor has traveled to lecture on Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Tudor served as a sentinel and relief commander at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from February 1969 to Memorial Day of 1970. He is the past President and Board Member of the Society of the Honor Guard – Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
Arlington National Cemetery is the resting place for over 400,000 U.S. Service Members and their next of kin, and the only cemetery that has veterans from every war the United States has fought, dating back to the American Revolution.
In the interest of remaining transparent to all club members, the nominating committee has been selected and will proceed according to the following bylaws.
ARTICLE VII - NOMINATION AND ELECTION OF OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS
Section 7.1. Nominating Committee. Approximately 2 months before the annual meeting, the Club President shall appoint a Nominating Committee whose purpose shall be to place before the Club membership a slate of candidates to serve as Officers and Directors of the Board of Directors in the ensuing fiscal year. The Nominating Committee shall consist of five Members, as follows: one Past President of the Club; the current President-Elect of the Club; and three Members-at-Large, one of whom shall have been a Member of the Club less than 5 years, one of whom shall have been a Member of the Club 6 or more years but not more than 15 years, and one of whom shall have been a Member of the Club for more than 15 years. The Past-President will serve as the Chair of the Nominating Committee.
Section 7.2. Presenting the Slate. At least 2 weeks before the Club's annual meeting, the Nominating Committee shall present to the membership the names of the four Officers and the appropriate number of Directors needed to fill vacancies occurring on the Board of Directors.
Section 12.2. Annual Meeting. An annual meeting of the Club shall be held each year at the regular weekly meeting, on the second Friday in December.
The Annual Meeting will be on Friday, December 9th.

The Rotary Foundation A message from District Governor Sam Kevan
November is ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH. Undoubtedly the impact of Rotary worldwide would be a fraction of what it is if it weren’t for The Rotary Foundation.
In my club visits, I have been reminding Rotarians of the impact of The Rotary Foundation through the 7 areas of focus: ● Peacemaking ● Fighting disease especially with a new project in fighting malaria ● Improving maternal and child health outcomes ● Providing clean water and improving sanitation ● Improving literacy through education ● Bringing economic development to impoverished communities ● Protecting the environment
Of course, the work of The Rotary Foundation does not happen without our generous support. I want to especially thank Sustaining Members, Paul Harris Fellows, Paul Harris Society members, and Major Donors for their consistency and generosity in supporting The Rotary Foundation. It is you who recognize the significance of The Rotary Foundation possessing a 4 Star rating with Charity Navigator for 14 straight years. This is a rating granted to only the top 1% of charities. You realize that with this efficiency and impact, your money is being wisely and effectively used.
You have probably heard the term “Every Rotarian Every Year.” (The Every Rotarian, Every Year (EREY) initiative encourages all Rotary club members to contribute $25 every year to help us reach our goal to support the Rotary Foundation financially each year.) Unfortunately, in our District last year we had only 43% of Rotarian members actually contributed to the Annual Fund of The Rotary Foundation. There were 7 clubs in which no member contributed. I would hope that with the amazing record of what The Rotary Foundation does in the world, every Rotarian will be motivated to contribute at least $25.
Next weekend is the Cougars Care food distribution day! They still need maybe 1-2 more people to help sort food and fill boxes on Friday and Saturday morning, and 3-5 more people for helping with food distribution on Saturday. Now until Nov. 28th, The Rotary Club of Colorado Springs will be taking donations by cash or check at club meetings and online here: www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/CO0223 for the 2022 Wreaths Across America fundraiser. Every $15 = 1 wreath that will be laid at Evergreen Cemetery on Dec 17th this year for their annual Wreath Day, and for every 2 wreaths purchased, WAA donates an additional wreath to be placed! Jon will be speaking at Zone Institute this week in Salt Lake City. He will report on the two Kenya water enterprises being installed at two Maasai villages, and the funding mechanisms used by a Minnesota Rotary Foundation that makes it a charitable investment that returns all capital and interest to them in a couple years to fund another project again and again. Our own community Service Fund also participated.
The Concert Committee is forming with captains being chosen to plan a Concert to Rock Your World next October for 8500 ticketed guests. The H2OpenDoors Expedition to Guatemala leaves on January 5-11, and registration is available at www.H2OpenDoors.org. Click on Participate and download the packet. There are already 24 registered, so you'll need to get yours in by November 14. Three water purification systems, 800 reading glass fittings and the start of building a 20-stall hygeine building at Escuintla Hosptial to have all purified water.
