Looking forward to this Friday's meeting and a presentation by fellow Rotarian Joe Wiegand.   As an actor and historian, Joe's portrayals of Theodore Roosevelt in live performances and in television and film have people wondering if TR has come back to life.  For a bit of information on Joe, please take a look at http://www.teddyrooseveltshow.com or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEPf8ednP68  Maybe Teddy will give his perspective on our recent election.

Past-President Jane Young is the chair of our nominating committee and will put in nomination the slate of officers/directors for our next Rotary year at this week's meeting. The election will be at our annual business meeting on December 2nd.

Programs coming up in December --

December 2nd -- A presentation by the architect, Stuart Coppedge, and the builder, G.E. Johnson Construction, on the new Pikes Peak Summit House.

December 9th -- Our own Jack Donley will tell us about making the trek to the top of Pikes Peak as a member of the AdAmAn club.

December 16th -- Our annual holiday celebration -- Santa will visit and one of the outstanding groups from the Colorado Springs Children's Chorale will sing for us.  If you plan on bringing a guest, please let Claudine know.

Don't forget to bring a canned food donation to this Friday's meeting to support Rotary Prime's Cougar Cares Food Drive.  If you won't be at the meeting, you may drop off your donation at 9475 Briar Village Point, Suite 316, 80920.  Please text Claudine at 719-640-5648 prior to coming by, as she may be out in the field.

Thanks to Ron Rubin for leading last week's meeting.  As I mentioned earlier, I was in Anderson, Indiana, for the funeral of a 103-year old family friend, Earl Gamble.  My mother and his wife shared an apartment while their husbands were serving in WWII and the friendship lasted forever.  Earl was an Army medic with service in France and Germany -- he was a devout Christian and chose to serve as a medic as he wanted to save lives rather than take them.  Fitting that the funeral was on Veterans Day -- I donned my flight suit and presented the flag.  Below is a picture of me and Earl's son, David, after the funeral.

Paul Harris Fellow Matching Point Program
November is Rotary Foundation Month. Established in 1917 with a donation of $26.50, The Rotary Foundation is dedicated to advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace. Through grants and other resources, Rotary members develop sustainable projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, support education, save mothers and children, and grow local economies.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. Named for the founder of Rotary, it was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to the educational and humanitarian work of The Rotary Foundation.

To honor the centennial of The Rotary Foundation and the 60th anniversary of the Paul Harris Fellow recognition, we are offering an incentive for members who wish to become Paul Harris Fellows or to advance to the next recognition level.

If you are not yet a Paul Harris Fellow, we will match every dollar you contribute with two Foundation Recognition Points (a recognition point is awarded for each dollar contributed to The Foundation by a club or individual and is transferrable to help others achieve Paul Harris recognition). For example, if your contributions to date total $400 and you make a one-time donation of $200, we will transfer 400 points to your account and you will become a Paul Harris Fellow!

If you are already a Paul Harris Fellow, we will match every dollar you contribute with one point. Thus, if you are currently a Paul Harris Fellow plus 1 and your contributions to date equal $2,500, we will match your one-time contribution of $250 with 250 points and you’ll become a Paul Harris Fellow plus 2!
Over the next few weeks, Foundation Chair Tom Nelson will be sending every member an email outlining their current Paul Harris level, donations to date and contribution needed when combined with Recognition Points to reach the first or next Paul Harris level.

This offer will run through the end of the current Rotary Year (June 30, 2017) so there will plenty of time to take advantage of this generous incentive.
CALLING ALL ARTISTS!! Agua for Nicaragua!

A new club has been established at William J. Palmer High School and unlike any other club, this club is shedding light on something people take for granted: Water.
The Nicaragua Water Project is a club partnered with Rotary Interact, and its purpose is to raise $15,000 to help build a water filtration system in a town in a village in Nicaragua, El Crucero. At this point, the club has raised $5,000 through various fund raising projects and coming up pretty soon, Palmer will host another fundraising event that they would want anyone you to be a part of. On December 2nd from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. to December 3rd from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., Palmer will be hosting an art show. If you’re interested in showcasing your art,  all you need to do is to send your art to Palmer High School, say your art is a donation for the Nicaragua Water Project Art Show, and provide your name and a suggested price. The club is accepting art until December 1st and any time before that is acceptable too! If you have any other questions please contact Melanie Phelps at MELANIE.PHELPS@d11.org. We hope to see you there!
