Liz and I are along with Past-President Jane Hammoud are off to Atlanta on Saturday where we'll join thousands of Rotarians for the Rotary International Convention.  This gathering marks the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Foundation.  Speakers at the convention include Rotary leadership plus many others.  Bill Gates who's been a great supporter of Polio Plus through the Gates Foundation will speak. Others include Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee and golfing great Jack Nicklaus.  I'll take lots of pictures and give you a report on the event at our club meeting in two weeks on June 23rd.

Don't forget to mark your calendar for this Thursday evening.  Rotary Prime is hosting another social -- Thursday, June 8th, 5:30 p.m., at The Smiling Toad Brewery (owned by Rotarian Biff Morehead).  Proceeds will benefit another Prime service project with Midland Elementary School.  Biff will have the food trucks on site.  The Smiling Toad is located at 1757 S 8th St #100, Colorado Springs, CO, 80905.  http://smilingtoadbrewery.com/

You've probably received e-mails from Rotarian Paulette Church about the Rotary Leadership Institute to be held June 23rd and 24th at El Pomar.  This is a great opportunity for a condensed course on what Rotary is all about.   See the article below for more information.

Our Rotarian Kathleen Saltmarsh-Voss was seriously injured in an accident on Saturday that resulted in multiple breaks to both legs.  She had surgery on her left leg on Sunday and will have surgery on the right leg today.   We'll have some cards available at Friday's meeting for you to sign.  I've visited her a couple of times and she's in good spirits considering the trauma she's gone through.  Kathleen is at Memorial Central.  Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers for a safe recovery.
Stories
JoAnne Henjum - In Memoriam

JoAnne Henjum, wife of our Past President Joe Henjum, passed away on Friday, June 2nd at Morningstar at Mountain Shadows.  JoAnne and Joe were both strong supporters of Rotary and the support of our military community through Home Front Cares.

Born in 1933 in Miami, Florida, JoAnne studied music at the University of Miami, where she met and married Joseph Henjum in 1954. She was a devoted Air Force wife and mother, traveling the world, raising two children, and serving in a wide variety of volunteer and paid positions during Joe's 26-year career, which included a tour at the US Air Force Academy. After active duty, the couple returned to Colorado Springs for good, where JoAnne worked for 10 years alongside her husband as Director of Marketing at Cheyenne Place Retirement Community. JoAnne was a member of First Lutheran Church and, in the last several years of her life, of First Congregational Church.

JoAnne will be remembered for her loyalty to friends and family, her devotion to God, and her generous spirit. She had a soft spot in her heart for the underdog, and often found herself called to assist those in need.

An only child, JoAnne is survived by her two children, Mark Henjum and Nancy Henjum, both residents of Colorado Springs, four grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

Memorial gifts may be made to The Home Front Cares.

JoAnne will be laid to rest with her husband at the Air Force Academy Cemetery. Services will be held this fall.

Cost for each part is $20 separately or $50 for the full 3-part training, which includes lunch.  If you are coming for Part III only, you can add lunch $10 if you wish to network with others. Email rotarypaulette@gmail.com to register and pay at the door with cash or check.  No charge for the Grant Management Training workshop unless you want to add lunch prior to that session for $10.
