Rotary Club of Colorado Springs Bulletin Sept. 21 (Sep 21, 2023)

The flight committee and Board of Directors have been tirelessly working to ensure our annual fundraiser is a success. I hope you are able to join us either in person or virtually. There are so many gorgeous butterflies and dragonflies to bid on and our Silent Auction team has outdone themselves with some amazing items. If you haven't purchased your tickets or registered to bid be sure to do so at https://flight.givesmart.com and also make sure your Raffle Tickets are returned to Caryn Adams before the drawing which will take place the evening of the gala.

Please remember we DO NOT have a meeting this Friday and we have a location change for our Sept. 29th meeting which will be held at the Mining Exchange (8 S. Nevada Ave.) RSVP HERE

We do have an exciting social coming up on Tuesday, September 26th from 5 - 7 pm, thank you to Lynne Pearson and the social committee for your work in organizing what will be a wonderful evening! Join your fellow Rotarians and bring along your family, friends, and anyone you think might want to learn more about our club for a fun-filled night at Trainwrecks (812 S. Sierra Madre). We will have a reserved fire pit and there are options to play various yard games. We are asking that you RSVP HERE so we have an idea of how many will be in attendance. You can RSVP for yourself and your guests!

Later in the bulletin be sure to read the letter we received from the Rotary Club of Highlands Ranch thanking our club for the previous donation made in support of the Marshall Fire. Providing support to other clubs when tragedy and the unthinkable occur can only be made possible by your support of our Community Service Fund and events like our annual gala. Included in the letter are a few highlights of how the financial support received was distributed.

As I shared in a prior email yesterday, long-time member Bill Kettles passed peacefully during the evening of September 18th. He greatly appreciated the visits he received from club members over the past month. As soon as I receive an update on when his service will be held I will be sure to pass that along so members have an opportunity to pay their respects.

International Update from Jon Kaufman:

Our two installs for water enterprises were executed for two Maasai villages earlier this year. The one that is in Amboseli National Park is at the foot of Mt. kilimanjaro on the Kenya side. A family of supporters of the H2OpenDoors project decided to help with a $40,000 need to finish the project with a deep borehole and bottling building and equipment. We had already put in The SunSpring which has been providing safe water to the village. But we needed to build out the plant so it can be a women-run robust water business with potential of $200,000 in annual revenue.

So Father and Son, Chet and Spencer Pipkin decided to ascend 20,000 feet to the top of Kilimanjaro, challenging all of us to provide $1 per foot. Once that is reached they will match another $20K, securing the full $40K we need.

They reached the peak on Sept. 7 and will be descending Sept. 8. Go to the crowdfunding page to learn more and make your tax-deductible contribution at https://maasaiwater.org/!
