Location at The Antlers for this Friday's meeting --

Our club is graciously accommodating a scheduling challenge presented to us by The Antlers for this Friday's meeting.  We will be in a room called The View.  It's not a perfect venue for our club's normal meeting, but let's see if we can make it through -- there's room for everyone to come and see an excellent program on the murals of Colorado Springs.

How to get there -- two methods.

#1 - Walk down the main hallway to the second right turn.   You are now in the area where the food was served at last week's meeting.  After the turn, walk straight ahead to the stairway and take it to the second level.  At the top, The View is on your left.

#2 -- Take a main elevator to the second floor (Push 2).  Exiting the elevator, turn right and follow the hallway -- there will be signs for you to follow to The View.
Stories
"Prime in Salt Lake City"
Last weekend, Brittany Smaridge and I had the opportunity to travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend the Young Professionals Rotary Zone Conference. We met so many amazing “Primers” from all over our zone who will truly be lifelong friends. The amount of brainpower in one room was astounding. We spent many hours brainstorming new ideas and reflecting on old ideas that are still working in order to make Rotary even more impactful. We covered everything from recruitment (Prime and Classic members alike) to structure of meetings and dues to project ideas. We are very excited to share all of the new ideas with you over the future months.

We would like to thank Dennis for sending us on this trip, and we would like to thank all of you for your never-ending support of Prime and all of the upcoming young leaders. After talking to the other young professionals, we realized how truly lucky we are to have such a supportive Rotary club. We may be the future, but we certainly couldn’t have gotten here without the path paved by all of you!

Join us at the meeting this Friday when Brittany and I will go a little more in depth about our trip and all that we learned.

Paul Harris Fellow Matching Point Program
November is Rotary Foundation Month. Established in 1917 with a donation of $26.50, The Rotary Foundation is dedicated to advancing world understanding, goodwill, and peace. Through grants and other resources, Rotary members develop sustainable projects that promote peace, fight disease, provide clean water, support education, save mothers and children, and grow local economies.

The Paul Harris Fellow recognition acknowledges individuals who contribute, or who have contributions made in their name, of $1,000 to The Rotary Foundation. Named for the founder of Rotary, it was established in 1957 to show appreciation for and encourage substantial contributions to the educational and humanitarian work of The Rotary Foundation.

To honor the centennial of The Rotary Foundation and the 60th anniversary of the Paul Harris Fellow recognition, we are offering an incentive for members who wish to become Paul Harris Fellows or to advance to the next recognition level.

If you are not yet a Paul Harris Fellow, we will match every dollar you contribute with two Foundation Recognition Points (a recognition point is awarded for each dollar contributed to The Foundation by a club or individual and is transferrable to help others achieve Paul Harris recognition). For example, if your contributions to date total $400 and you make a one-time donation of $200, we will transfer 400 points to your account and you will become a Paul Harris Fellow!

If you are already a Paul Harris Fellow, we will match every dollar you contribute with one point. Thus, if you are currently a Paul Harris Fellow plus 1 and your contributions to date equal $2,500, we will match your one-time contribution of $250 with 250 points and you’ll become a Paul Harris Fellow plus 2!
Over the next few weeks, Foundation Chair Tom Nelson will be sending every member an email outlining their current Paul Harris level, donations to date and contribution needed when combined with Recognition Points to reach the first or next Paul Harris level.

This offer will run through the end of the current Rotary Year (June 30, 2017) so there will plenty of time to take advantage of this generous incentive.

MEMBERS COME THROUGH ON SRM COAT DRIVE
Thanks to Rotarians who came through on warm coats and cold-weather gear for Springs Rescue Mission in October. We collected 45 jackets; 4 vests; long underwear; and assorted gloves, scarves and caps for the homeless men, women and children who will be relying on the mission’s services this winter.

Donations came in from George Ehnert, Bud Herskind, Bill Koch, Tom Nelson, John Sawyer, Dennis Shoemaker, Jeff Tiona, Bob Werschky, and a few non-Rotarians. Thanks for making this drive a success, guys!
Request for Internship in Marketing
I received this e-mail from a Rotarian's daughter in Sweden.  If anyone has an idea, please let me know and I'll share her contact information.

Dear President Shoemaker

I hope this email reaches you well, My name is Elinor Månsson, I'm currently studying International Sales at IHM Business School in Gothenburg. Starting in February next year we have 10 weeks allocated to an internship of our choice. I am very keen on doing mine in Colorado Springs.  I'm interested in doing my internship in marketing, and preferably in an multinational company or a company that belongs to a multinational organization. However, I'm open to all suggestions depending on availability.

I’m reaching out to The Rotary Club because my father is a rotarian and a former president of the Kungsportens Rotary Club in Gothenburg. I’m very thankful if you would bring my case to your club.   Thank you for taking your time to read my email and I hope you’d be so kind to forward my question to the members of your club. I look forward to hearing from you, best regards. Elinor Månsson
CALLING ALL ARTISTS!! Agua for Nicaragua!

A new club has been established at William J. Palmer High School and unlike any other club, this club is shedding light on something people take for granted: Water.
The Nicaragua Water Project is a club partnered with Rotary Interact, and its purpose is to raise $15,000 to help build a water filtration system in a town in a village in Nicaragua, El Crucero. At this point, the club has raised $5,000 through various fund raising projects and coming up pretty soon, Palmer will host another fundraising event that they would want anyone you to be a part of. On December 2nd from 4 p.m.-8 p.m. to December 3rd from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., Palmer will be hosting an art show. If you’re interested in showcasing your art,  all you need to do is to send your art to Palmer High School, say your art is a donation for the Nicaragua Water Project Art Show, and provide your name and a suggested price. The club is accepting art until December 1st and any time before that is acceptable too! If you have any other questions please contact Melanie Phelps at MELANIE.PHELPS@d11.org. We hope to see you there!
