Thank you to everyone able to make it out last Friday for The Grand Reveal! It was a spectacular event! Tina Dewey did an amazing job coordinating every aspect of the evening and tasks leading up to it. We had a LOT of supporters who helped install the medium and large butterflies and the dragonflies at Pioneers Museum. We had a great crew moving Petites from Status Symbol to the museum and then on to Lawrence Dryhurst Gallery right after The Reveal ended.
I enjoyed meeting many of the artists that evening. They have done such an amazing job creating these magnificent works of art! I don't know how it happens but every year is better than the one before.
The silent auction for FLIGHT has kicked off! Thank you to Jody Richie, Carol Bach, and Keith Starns for pulling all of the information together to be entered into GiveSmart. Here is the link to register to bid and to view all the silent auction items: https://e.givesmart.com/events/mxK/
Thank you to all of the Rotarians this year that have committed to sponsoring FLIGHT 2021! Many of you have also donated items for the silent auction. As we are in the last few weeks before the main event, the best way to support FLIGHT at this point is to put the word out on social media or to your networks about September 25 and raffle tickets, and what a fabulous opportunity this is to own a butterfly!
This will (hopefully and) most likely be the last year that FLIGHT is held virtually so it won't be as easy to participate in bidding for the live items without attending and tickets to attend the event will cost $$. I appreciate any avenue you can promote FLIGHT between now and Sept 25! There is no cost to watch the live stream so please tell everyone everywhere to tune in!
I look forward to seeing everyone tonight at the Rotarian Happy Hour at Lawrence Dryhurst Gallery, 122 E Kiowa, from 5-7 pm. No cost for Rotarians and plus ones to attend. We will be serving wine and light appetizers. I hope you are able to choose which Petites you plan to bid on. I know I have my eye on 3 of them! Our producer for FLIGHT will be filming tonight at the beginning of the Happy Hour to capture footage of our Petites and maybe a few Rotarian quotes to show during our live stream on Sept 25.
On September 17, our Rotary District Governor Becky Smith and her husband, Dr. Rick Smith, will be visiting our club and presenting the program. The Antlers will be serving a special fiesta menu that day. Our Rotary Foundation Director, Maile Foster, will be presenting some Paul Harris awards and there might be a few red and/or white badges given out as well! This will be a special program and I hope as many club members as possible will be attending!
This week's Random Awesome Deed suggestion is to write an email to someone - maybe even a Rotarian - who did something kind and share your appreciation for that person. Although as Rotarians, our motivation is not for recognition or credit, there is nothing wrong with thanking someone for doing good!
Be like Liam Neeson.
Now let's go forth, be great stewards of Rotary and Catalysts of Caring in our Community!
Please be well, be safe, and be kind. There are a lot of people out there needing just that.
You are all invited to a Rotary Happy Hour on September 9, (TONIGHT!) 5-7 pm at Lawrence Dryhurst Gallery, 122 E Kiowa. The gallery will provide beer, wine, water, and light appetizers. This social will be an opportunity to see all of the Petite butterflies on display. Thank you to Rotarian Wayne Smisek for hosting this event!
You can find all things FLIGHT 2021 in this column every week! Also, check out WWW.CSFLIGHT.ORG!
FLIGHT 2021 will be virtual one more time!
We will be working under the direction of Steve Weed Media at the Colorado Institute of Massage Therapy!

As you're doing your shopping online, did you know that you can support our Rotary Club with every Amazon purchase? Here’s how:
Go to smile.amazon.com (not amazon.com). Amazon Smile is the same company, same account, same password, but the Amazon Smile program gives one half of one percent of every purchase to charity. No, it’s not a lot, but it’s also not nuthin’ (to be exact: about $150 for the Club so far). So again, go to smile.amazon.com
Sign into your Amazon account as you normally would
On the very top left of the page, next to the AmazonSmile logo, are three horizontal bars. Click there for the drop-down menu.
Scroll ALL the way down to “Your AmazonSmile”; it should be the last option right before “Sign Out”; Click on “Your AmazonSmile”
On the right side of the page, click on the “change charity” box under Your current charity (Note: If you are currently supporting another charity, that’s awesome! These instructions are for those who are not doing so. Also, if you have not previously selected a charity, your default option will be St. Judge Children’s Research Hospital.)
Type in Community Service Fund of the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs; click Select
That’s it. You’re all set. Just remember to go to Smile.Amazon.com when you shop from now on.
