Today is World Polio Day! How will you be marking the occasion?

First, please DO NOT FORGET TO PICK UP YOUR COOKIES from Boonzaaijer's Bakery. I know it's snowy, but those cookies are just waiting for you. Once you have your cookies, please help us raise awareness by taking a picture showing how you raise awareness. If you can add that picture to FaceBook yourself, please do so (with the hashtag #EndPolioNow). If you don't know how to do so, you may text or email the picture to me or Rodney Gullatte, and we will do so for you. Everyone who takes a picture of themselves raising awareness about polio will be entered into a drawing to win an #EndPolioNow T-shirt at the meeting tomorrow. (Faithful Rotarian Steve Kidd sends his love and some goodies from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. Thank you, Steve! We miss you.)

Second, please tune in throughout the day today for the watch party. You can access it at Rotary.org or through the links we've posted to our FaceBook page this last week. We expect a MAJOR announcement today (which, yes, we will discuss at the meeting tomorrow.)

Thirdly, please come to the meeting tomorrow and bring a friend who might want to know more about what we are doing to eradicate polio. You won't want to miss this week's meeting. I have shirts and hats to give away. There will be a very exciting Flight announcement. We are going to change lives.

Finally, why do we care? Rotary has immunized over 2.5 billion children (say that in your Dr. Evil voice, because that's BILLION, with a "B"). Through our combined efforts with the World Health Organization and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and others, the total number of polio cases around the world has been reduced more than 99.9% from 1988 to today. Rotary spends more than 16 million man hours each year in this fight. Rotarians around the world will be showing their support for polio eradication today in many ways: through concerts, through meal programs, by lighting up their city with purple lights... and in Colorado Springs, through cookies.

Stay safe and warm on this wintery day. I'll see you tomorrow.

Raising Awareness with Cookies!
Thank you to all who participated in the Polio Cookies event! Please remember to take  pictures of your friends and family enjoying the cookies, and please share them with us. Although this isn't a fundraiser, it IS an awareness raiser. Let's get out there and spread the word of what Rotary is doing to End Polio Now!
