On Tuesday of this week I joined with members of the Diamond Awards Committee (Chair - Jack Kinney, Katherine George, Fabrizio Labate, D11 Rep - LouAnn Dekleva) to visit Coronado and Doherty High Schools. At Coronado, we joined with Principal Darin Smith (a previous Diamond Award winner) and representative staff to notify Laurie Ross, a math teacher, that she is this year's recipient of the Diamond Award for her school. How exciting to walk into the room unannounced to make the notification.

Later in the day, our same group visited Doherty High School to join Principal Kevin Gardner and staff reps to invade the classroom of government teacher Hunter Conde to make the notification. Hunter has a connection to Rotary that we were unaware of during the selection process -- he is the school's liaison to a newly-formed Interact club sponsored by the North Colorado Springs Rotary Club.

The formal Diamond Awards for these two recipients will be presented at our regular club meeting on March 17th (Mining Exchange Hotel). It's always very heart-warming to attend the Diamond Award presentations and hear these deserving award winners share their stories about their commitment to educating our D11 youth. We're back to two award programs this year -- the first on March 17th (Coronado and Doherty), the second on April 28th at the Antlers (Palmer, Wasson, and Mitchell).

Another exciting Rotary club event took place last Saturday morning at Queen Palmer Elementary where representatives from our club served breakfast to families from the community. This is our second year of this meaningful outreach to the Queen Palmer students and their parents. Joining on the serving line were Rotarians Nick Gledich (D11 Superintendent), Jack Kinney, Caryn Adams, Jeff Ahrendsen, Bart Givens, Marlene Rothzeid, Dennis & Liz Shoemaker, and former C/S Rotarian Regina Lewis. Jeff was joined by his daughter Casey and her Cheyenne Mountain H.S. Tennis doubles partner Ally Arenson, both of whom are seniors this year -- great community service from D11 high school students.

Work/Life Balance Panel:

Rotary Prime is looking for Classic members to volunteer to sit on a panel to take place at Rotary's regularly scheduled meeting on Friday, March 24th. Panel members will take questions from moderators in order to share their experiences with regard to balancing the responsibilities of their respective professions while still maintaining happy and healthy personal lives. We want to hear about your challenges, successes, and lessons learned.
