Thanks for making my first meeting of my Rotary Year such a good experience! As I said at the end, "Only 48 more meetings to go!"
I'd like to designate the meeting on August 11, which will feature our Secretary of State, Wayne Williams, as a date to invite your friends to Rotary. It would be great to have a net increase of five to ten new members this year and maybe this will encourage you to bring someone to our Rotary Club meeting who is a prospective member. Even if he or she is not a prospect, just bringing a friend to our meeting will create awareness of what Rotary is and what we do all around the world. I hope you will take me up on this invitation. Some members, like Rodney, seem to bring many guests to our club, some of whom are wonderful prospects for membership. Thanks to all of you who bring people to Rotary!
Please plan to join Michaela and Prime tomorrow night (Thursday) for their social, starting at 5:30 at Local Relic. It is at 320 S. Weber Street and is open only Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. I'm sure their beers are unique. Speaking of unique beers, our next beer social for our Classic Club will be at Smiling Toad, where our own Biff Morehead is the brewer, purveyor, and owner of this fine establishment. We'll be coming up with a date sometime soon... right, Mr. Stevenson - director of Energy and Ambiance?

Congratulations to our 2017 Rotarian of the Year - Laura Nonte. Laura is recognized for her persistent volunteer efforts to make sure our weekly meetings run well. She has coordinated the weekly volunteers -- cashier, registrar, greeters, introduction of guests, and words of appreciation -- even filling in at the last minute when there are unexpected absences.
Laura has also coordinated the club's high school scholarship program -- two $5000 needs-based scholarships for students from Palmer and Wasson. She solicits volunteers from within the club to evaluate the applications for a final decision.
Our thanks to Laura for her contributions to Rotary -- a job well-done!
