Happy belated Earth Day! I hope you found some time to get outside this week and enjoy this lovely place we get to call home. There are several clean up opportunities happening this weekend on April 27th for the Great American Clean Up. On Thursday, May 2nd at 6:00PM members are invited to attend the Our Community Salutes High School Enlistee Recognition ceremonty at Flying W Ranch. This FREE event will recognize the Class of 2024 high school seniors and their families from across the city that have made the selfless decision to serve our country. Please register HERE to let the organizers know if you will be attending to show your support and meet the incoming service members.
On Saturday, May 4th from 2 - 5PM the Broadmoor Rotary Club is hosting their 2nd Annual Kentucky Derby Watch Party at the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame. The cost to attend is $40 and tickets can be purchased HERE. Learn more from their flyer below.
The Rotary Champions Foundation is an organization comprising members of the Pikes Peak Region clubs that recognizes exceptional high school scholar athletes on an annual basis. Kelly Steele and Chip Frazer are our club's representatives to the Rotary Champions board. Since 1985, Rotary Champions has recognized over 10,000 outstanding high school athletes and awarded over $315,000 in scholarships! On May 7th at 6PM at the Pikes Peak Center on Cascade Avenue, we will recognize nearly over 180 outstanding scholar-athletes from 20 high schools in the area. There is no charge to attend the event. All Rotarians and community members are invited to take part in the recognition of amazing high school scholar athletes! This week we will be joined by Diamond Awardees from Mitchell High School and the Achieve/Online Digital School on the Wasson Academic Campus. Unfortunately, the selected teacher from Palmer High School is unable to join us but the committee will make sure Mrs. Choi receives her award.

Impact Club Corner
From Chip Frazer: I've received feedback that some members of the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs aren't yet aware of how the Impact Club is a part of the Friday club. Hopefully this will help (please read!!!):
Above all: we are all one Rotary club!!! The Impact Club is simply a satellite club--or extension--of the Friday club.
The Impact Club has two purposes: 1) provide a different option for Rotarians who are not always able to go to the Friday meetings, and 2) focus on Service Above Self.
All Rotary members are welcome (and encouraged!!!) to go to both the Friday club AND Impact Club meetings (not necessarily in the same week, but Rotarians can switch it up based upon their personal schedule).
The Impact Club meets twice per month: the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of each month from 7:30-8:30 AM (in the morning) at the Black Bear Diner on Garden of the Gods Road. Chip's promise to every Rotarian is that we will begin at 7:30AM and end at 8:30AM--sharp!!!
I think everyone understands the cost structure for the Friday club. If a member chooses the Impact Club as their primary meeting option, they pay the same $150 per quarter in Rotary dues; however, there is no pre-pay for meals and they pay for their breakfast on the spot to the Black Bear Diner based on what they ordered.
The Impact Club meeting does not follow the same agenda as the Friday club. As a matter of fact, it is loosely structured to promote interaction and relationship-building among the members. Yes, Chip talks a little bit, but the intention of the club is to include everyone and emphasize that it is a member-driven club. If a member has an idea, we want to hear it and discuss how we can make it a reality!
The Impact Club regularly draws between a dozen up to 20 members per meeting. We've signed up new members to Rotary who are excited about having another meeting option!
