In keeping with June being Rotary Fellowship month, we are continuing with our monthly socials. This month it will be next Friday at Red Leg Brewery. They will have food trucks there. In addition, it is a summer beach party theme and they will have beachy cocktails available as well as beer. Hawaiian attire is encouraged. - The best part is that the Sofakillers will be playing from 5 pm to 8 pm. Since they are so popular, if there are a couple of members who can arrive around 4 pm and stake out an area, let Ron Rubin know. People are welcome to bring camp or folding chairs as seating will be limited - though many will be out dancing.

This week we are still looking for volunteers for words of inspiration/invocation and for guest introductions. Also, in honor of Flag Day next week, Paul Clarkin will be playing "It's A Grand Old Flag" on the piano and it would be great if someone could join him in leading the singing. Please let me or Karen Mooty know if you can help with any of these.
I am looking for a member who is bilingual in Spanish. We sponsored a water project in Nicaraqua and we are having a problem getting a response by email. I thought a phone call might get us the update we need. If there is a club member who can help us out, that would be great. Just let me know.

Our Flight Committee is looking for a few more members. It is exciting to be part of this major effort of our club and it is a great opportunity to see all the moving parts that go into this event. There are tasks that go for a few months and tasks that are a quick couple of days, tasks that take a little time and ones that take more time. Come check with Cody and we can get you plugged in to fit your time and interest. Remember - "many hands make light the load".
This week our speaker will be Sam Adventure Baker who climbed Yosemite's El Capitan as an 8-year-old. He became the youngest person to climb El Capitan last October. Sam and his Dad, Joe, spent years preparing for the five-day wall climb. Joe has an interesting perspective on raising boys, and Sam, his now 9-year-old, is a fun and inspiring kid. Hearing their stories will be a unique experience for sure. Next week our speaker will be State Representative and Harrison District 2 school board member Regina English discussing Juneteenth. She has an impressive background in community service and engagement. Don't forget to RSVP - and bring a friend!

Regina English is a wife, mother of five, grandmother of ten, and Godmother of four despite a very demanding life. Regina loves spending time with her family, traveling, shopping, playing basketball, fashion modeling, and making others laugh and smile with her infectious humor.
Regina holds the title Mrs. El Paso County 2023. In addition, she will be competing in the Mrs. Colorado America Pageant in April 2023 for the state title Mrs.Colorado America 2023, where she will be representing married women. Education is at the forefront of Regina’s mission. She advocates for all scholars and is passionate about equity in education and creating a space for all scholars to thrive. She is modeling the behaviors she would like to see as a current Doctoral candidate.
Regina currently serves as the Treasurer of the Harrison School District Two Board of Education and Vice-President of the Colorado Black Caucus of School Board Directors. She is a solid, consistent voice for our scholars.
Regina is passionate about serving her community and making a meaningful impact, ensuring that we all have a better quality of life and live in healthy, safe, and clean neighborhoods. Regina is an inspiration to us all! Her life motto is: “Stay Ready, So You Don’t Have To Get Ready.”
We are still hoping our club can be a "Every Rotarian Every Year Club" with the Rotary Foundation. So please donate if you are one of the 20 or so who have not done so already. Come enjoy fellowship, food and beverages and great music at our last social of the Rotary year. You are welcome to bring a camping chair as seating may be limited - or you can sit on a blanket on the grass. Red Leg is doing a Hawaiian theme that day, so feel free to wear your Hawaiian or Rotary attire. The number one cover band in Colorado Springs, the Sofakillers, will be playing. Their slogan is: "Get off your sofa and dance to killer music", so there will be lots of fun dance tunes to enjoy. It should be fun!

The question is constantly asked “what the next big project for Rotary will be” and the answer is always the same, “we must keep our promise to the world and finish what we started”. The Global Polio Eradication Initiative continues to be the number one focus of Rotary International and will be until this promise is kept. With only two countries still endemic to the wild polio virus and with only three new reported cases this year there is guarded optimism. However, the partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative know that the fight is not over, and a renewed worldwide effort will be needed to reach the goal. At the World Health Summit last October world leaders pledged 2.6 billion dollars over the next three years towards the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. The funding will support global efforts to overcome the final hurdles to polio eradication, vaccinate 370 million children annually over the next three years and continue disease surveillance across 50 countries.
From the early 1980s when Rotary Clubs in the Philippines started a local project to vaccinate children in their country. Seeing the success in the Philippines Rotary International adopted the program to vaccinate all children around the world. From those early commitments until today Rotary has been unwavering in the effort to eradicate polio. Rotary support includes volunteers on the ground, environment sampling, laboratory testing facilities, transportation of vaccines, and financial support of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative. Without the commitment of Rotary International and the continued support of the dedicated Rotarians the eradication of this disease would not be possible.
As part of the tremendous financial support commitments made at the World Health Summit Rotary International has pledged $150 million over the next three years. For Rotary to meet this pledge local clubs and their members are asked to help Rotary keep our promise. We have the ability to be part of the eradication of only the second disease in history. Your help is vital to make a difference in the world. As we approach the end of this Rotary year, please consider a donation to The Rotary Foundation Polio Plus Fund. Your donation will be matched 2:1 by our polio partner The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Now in its fourth year, the Craig and Kyle Whitney Memorial Golf Tournament was established to provide community service. To-date, this very fun event has been sponsored by a wide range of local businesses and individuals and has raised more than $50,000 to benefit our community through the programs of the Salvation Army and the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs. Beginning last year and now going forward, the Whitney Tournament also provides “scholarships” for First Tee youth.
