Dr. Stanley Jacob Miedich, 89, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his home on October 14, 2018. Stan was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Charles, and his beloved wife, Louise (nee Hagen), of 54 years. Stan is survived by his son Carl and daughter-in-law Lisa, grandchildren Kathryn, Matthew and Nicholas, and great-grandchildren Wesley, Madison and Gabriel. He was greatly loved and will be forever missed by his family and friends.
Stan was born on May 18, 1929 in Brooklyn, NY to Karol and Mary (nee Cerar) Miedich. He served in the US Air Force for more than 20 years, retiring in 1968 as a Major. During the Vietnam War he directed the audio-visual activities of hundreds of combat cameramen and received the Bronze Star. Stan obtained a Doctorate in Finance and Business Policy from the University of Colorado-Boulder in 1980 and pursued a second career as a university professor at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs, the University of Missouri-St. Louis, and in Europe for Troy State University, before retiring in 1992. He authored numerous finance articles and books, including Compassionate Capitalism and Moral Economic Policies, which is currently available on Amazon.
Stan was a member of the Rotary Club of Colorado Springs for 23 years, receiving the Paul Harris Fellow Award. He was a true gentleman, known and loved for his kind and charitable nature. Stan enjoyed dancing, church and social activities, and discussing finance with his many friends. He traveled extensively, achieving in recent years his goal of visiting all of the Earth’s continents.
A memorial service will be held on November 16, 2018, at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St., Colorado Springs. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rotary Foundation (https://www.rotary.org/en/donate).
The VFW Poppy drive for Veterans Day is approaching and we are looking for volunteers to assist the VFW at their locations again this year.
If you are interested in volunteering your Saturday or Sunday please let Samantha Chapman know at samanthac@sentinelsoffreedom.org if you would like to fill one of the below slots. She will then pass your name/email along to Jim Griffith who will be in contact with further details. You will be paired with a VFW member and they will be providing all the supplies needed.
Each year Rotary Prime volunteers with Cougar’s Care, a program at Coronado High School providing support to students in need, during their Thanksgiving project where they provide a weeks-worth of food to families of the school. This year we will be volunteering on Nov 16th and 17th and would also like to ask for assistance from Rotary with a Canned Food Drive.
Please bring in non-perishable food/cans to Friday Meetings from October 19th – November 9th. All items collected will be dropped off at Coronado High School on November 16th when they sort and pack the boxes.
If you would like to join us in volunteering you can also meet at Coronado on Nov 16th from 3 – 5 pm to fill the boxes or Nov 17th from 7 am – 11:30 am to load the boxes into families cars.

Thanks to the clubs posting my last email about the work I am doing in Sierra Leone, a fellow Rotarian Howard Winfield from the Towcester Rotary Club in the UK reached out to me see if his club might be able to support some of the work we are doing for women and children.
I just spoke with him by phone and am hoping Partners in Health and his club can collaborate on a project. I feel fortunate to still be so connected to the Rotary family and am so pleased to see the connections I made continuing to enrich the work in my career.

Thought you might find it interesting! I work with Ebola survivors here in Sierra Leone even now, their an incredible group of people who are always inspiring.
