Wait 'till you see this! The butterflies are now firmly planted at the Pioneers' Museum and are on display for all to see. Thank you Vance and all others who helped "migrate" them from Status Symbol to the museum. It is the beginning of the Flight Gala taking on a tangible presence. If you have friends who might help sponsor our Gala, please ask them to go see the butterflies at the museum and they will be impressed and will want to be a part of this, I believe. This year's kaleidoscope of butterflies is magnificent and you will be equally amazed when you see them. Some call a group of butterflies a "swarm" but I like kaleidoscope. Next week, I'll give you some butterfly facts! We're moving closer and closer to the events surrounding our fundraiser.
Please pick up your raffle tickets to buy yourself or sell to others at this week's meeting. Let's get them distributed around town - this year's pick of the one to be raffled is one the best of the bunch and one of the best in the last ten years. Just think, someone will have this beautiful work of art even if he or she spends only $10!!
Tickets for the Flight Gala can now be purchased online! Go to https://e.gesture.com/events/5yh/. The price is $125 each (until September 22nd), which includes dinner, valet parking, wine on the tables, a silent auction, and much, much more. This is our big fundraiser and it is my hope that all of our club members will be participating. Even if you can't attend, please consider contributing the price of one ticket or two so that you are supporting our School District 11 arts and sciences programs and our Community Service Fund. Let's make this 10th Anniversary the largest amount we have raised to-date. You can purchase tickets at our Friday meetings, as well.
Caryn Adams has asked for volunteers for our membership committee to help with our new members. Getting them involved and engaged as quickly as possible is our goal. If they volunteer in some area of interest to them, we will have a better chance of keeping them as committed Rotarians, of course. Caryn would also like to put out a call for mentors for our new members. I know some of you will enjoy becoming more closely acquainted with them and sitting with them for a few weeks. Everyone has an interesting story to be told!
On an unpleasant note, some of you are delinquent in your dues payments. Please, please pay your bill when it is received so that Bill Casey doesn't have to remind you. It is part of the 4-Way Test I feel because if you don't pay, it is not fair to all concerned (and it surely doesn't build goodwill among us). Bill is a terrific treasurer and this is not an easy part of his job. He shouldn't have to talk to you about it at meetings on Friday. He would like to enjoy the fellowship without looking to see who hasn't paid.
Our club was fortunate enough to hear from our rebound exchange student, Annie Nikolaus, and our inbound student, Romana (Romi) Bogarova, at our Friday Aug. 11 meeting. Many thanks to our committed Rotarians and our club for supporting this wonderful program.
Our club will be having a Luau on Sunday, September 17th, at the home of Jack and Doris Donley. The price will be $25 each. Smoked pork and brisket will be the main course (made in Jack's giant smoker), along with other Luau favorites. We only have room for 50 Rotarians and guests so please sign up early if you wish to attend. Jack and Doris promise that "Tiny Bubbles" by Don Ho will be played, along with other Hawaiian favorites. I don't think we'll have poi, however, to eat! Beer and wine and punch will be provided - if you wish to indulge in other alcoholic beverages, please bring your own libations. This is the first Social organized by my Czar of Ambiance and Energy, Kevin Stevenson, along with his wife Sheri and Karen Rubin as co-chairs. Again, only 50 or so can attend so let Kevin or me know if you are planning on coming or you may email Karen Rubin at rockinkrubin@gmail.com. It will be a great evening, starting at 4:00 pm. Your check, made out to Colorado Springs Rotary Club (turned into Claudine and not the cashier), guarantees your reservation.

Romana (Romi) Bogarova arrived from Slovakia on Sunday afternoon. She is staying with our Rebound student, Annie Nikolaus and her family. This is a picture of Annie (left), Romi and Larry Nikolaus at Denver International Airport.
Romi will attend Discovery Canyon High School starting on Monday the 14th and will be in Colorado through the end of the school year in May 2018.
You will get a chance to meet Romi at this Friday's Rotary meeting -- please give her a warm welcome to her new home.
Flight is fast approaching and the Flight Silent Auction Committee has requested that anyone who has committed to donating an item or items, please deliver them to one of the committee members no later than Aug. 30.
