If you have guests who  are interested in getting involved with Rotary th ey are welcome to join us to learn more about the great things Rotary is d oing in the community.  Here is an overview of what was discussed at the previous meeting on August 16th:  Projects discussed: Theme for next year is Rotary Connects the World there are monthly themes we will try to conn ect with as well. August:Support North Club with Tap N’Golf Fundraiser – Details have been shared in the weekly bulletin and on Facebook and is taking place TONIGHT!   Late August: Provide Solar System lesson to loca l elementary school to support planet walk  - Needs Curriculum created fi rst\, will be postponed at moment. September:Support Planet Walk Sept 7t h  - Details are in the weekly bulletin and on Facebook. There has also b een a volunteer sign-up circulating. Flight Sept 14th – Volunteer sign-u p will be sent out soon. We will be looking for Check-out helpers and raff le ticket sellers. Hoping to have interact students to be runners bringing out butterflies for pick up. Oct:State/District Convention at Mt. Princ eton in Oct 11 – 13th\, encourage attendance – registration details ar e shared in weekly bulletin. The club that sends the most members will rec eive $500 to their service fund Oct 24th is World Polio Day – discussed teaming up with local donut shops to create fundraiser/awareness. Rotarian s can pre-order donuts to take to work and donuts can be sold throughout t he day. Optional shops to reach out to: Hurts\, Amy’s\, Horseshoe\, Donu t Mill. Can be joint effort with other rotary clubs. Will discuss with Mal lie on best way to proceed with plans. Nov:Last week of Oct Nov 4th – 10th is World Interact Week – Carol will work with Interact club to come up with possible project VFW Poppy Drive Weekend of Nov 9th Cougars Care Thanksgiving Event- 2 days to volunteer (Date TBD) Day 1 Sort and Pack/Day 2 Assist Families with Pick-upDiscussed having a social encouraging rotar y members & community to attend as well requesting non-perishable or monet ary donations for fresh food. Red Leg Brewing is near Coronado and they ha ve an upstairs room that would work great. Would like to do socials suppor ting a project/cause once a quarter. Supporting One Nation Walking Toget her – Cass emailed stats provided by  Kathy from One Nation about the L akota Reservation which were shared with those present. Cass will organize a donation drive with Emerald who is working on her Girl Scout Gold Award and they can also present to other local rotary clubs and see if they wou ld like to participate in the donation drive. Cass – is this something w e can plan for January timeframe when there are not as many holiday events occurring? Just a thought/suggestion. Dec:Santa Day @ Queen Palmer Colu mbia Christmas Project – Christmas Gift shopping for families at Columbi a Elementary (Shopping may occur before black Friday\, present wrapping 1s t or 2nd week of December) Bell Ringing for Salvation Army throughout mont h – Caryn will follow up for new contact for dates\, anticipate large nu mber who want to volunteer to honor Craig Whitney Feb: Mock Trial April is Maternal & Child Health Month -the club recently received a request to create Jared’s Boxes for Saint Frances Medical Center on E Woodmen.A Jar ed Box is a shoebox size plastic storage box filled with small gifts\, toy s\, cards\, and games. The boxes provide a fun\, special diversion for you ng patients in the hospital. Would be a great social for April to encourag e donations of the boxes and items to fill the boxes at the beginning of t he month and then have a packing party or encourage members to create boxe s on their own to be donated. Sam will reach out to contact Jason Browne a bout need of Saint Francis and if April is okay or needs to be sooner.                 April is also Earth Month – Kay mentioned l ooking into Rainbow Falls for a clean up event. Other topics discussed: F uture project ideas for Karen Kantor & Partners in Housing or Gloria Brook s & Pikes Peak Hospice. We also discussed possible dates for Habitat for H umanity – we were not able to utilize any of the dates in August\, but w ill follow up on other possible dates in future months.
