THE FOUR-WAY TEST

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:

Of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Part of our Ethics program includes sharing and teaching these goals at a local high school:

  1. New way to solve some of the most difficult ethical situations that you face as the newest members of the community
  2. What does ethical mean: set of principles or values that govern an individual or group in their decision making
  3. Way to validate your decisions, or those of a group, to ensure that the decision is ethically sound with your values
The classes are led by facilitators (Rotarians and friends of Rotarians): discussing scenarios that utilize the Four Way Test and then presenting to the rest of the classroom.
