This Sunday our club celebrated our charter day and these books were presented in that meeting to youth hostelers. The local media has carried this news with a picture. SCOTT ALLEN HONORED
Scott Allen was honored at the District Conference in Telluride as the Rotarian of the Year in District 5470. Scott has served as Lt. Governor for International Service for two years and has done an outstanding job of activating clubs through the Matching Grant program of Rotary International (RI). Our District has established a record number of humanitarian projects around the world using this often misunderstood mechanism of Rotary. While most of the projects are outside the
Scott was instrumental in getting the matching grant but his work did not stop there. He negotiated a "bargain-basement" price for them, found a Rotarian here that was willing to store them when they were delivered and then helped to distribute the books to each participating club. His work on this project is an indication of his "can-do" attitude.

Your "Rotary" Moment
In the life of most every member of every Rotary club, there is an experience that transforms that member into a Rotarian.
What was your "Rotary Moment"? We would all like to hear them. Send me your story and I will publish them here as l we have room.

Through Rotary and our Foundation, we must continually find ways to reduce global poverty, educate, heal the sick, prevent illness where we can and convince the world that peace and understanding is possible. IT IS our responsibility to understand how the RI Foundation works - matching grants, scholarships, District designated Funds, GSE, PolioPlus -- all the power of Rotary is available in one face-to-face session. For the first time ever, there is going to be a Regional Rotary Foundation Seminar (ZONE 25) and all Rotarians are invited to attend.

MY COLUMN
Where our club meets now and in the future seems to be on a lot of people's minds. We learned last summer from the management of the Ramada Inn that they were going to remodel their facility and that we would have to find a different place to meet. The board met with the management of the Holiday Inn and arranged to hold our meetings there until the end of March, 2002. Whether we return to the Ramada is still an open question. The remodeling there is going very slowly. Whether we can stay at the Holiday Inn is subject to negotiation. The Board is in conversation with the Colorado Springs Country Club about returning there for our meetings. We met at the Country Club for many years. But there is a lengthy approval process there and we are continuing our dialogue with them. We will keep the membership informed as to status of our location. In the meantime, enjoy The Holiday Inn and invite your friends that would make good Rotarians to visit us.

2O03-2004 ROTARY FOUNDATION AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE
The North Colorado` Springs Rotary Club is actively soliciting applications for the various Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships being awarded this May for study abroad in 2003-2004. Specialty, current student - undergraduate or graduate - whose families live in
The scholarships which are designed to further international understanding and goodwill, provide for study abroad in more than 160 countries where Rotary clubs are located. Some 1,300 scholarships of various types are made available from clubs worldwide each year resulting in over $20 million in scholarships awarded annually worldwide.
During their studies abroad, Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholars act as "ambassadors of goodwill", through appearances before Rotary clubs and districts, schools, civic organizations, and other forums. The scholars represent their homelands and districts and work to further international understanding
Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarships are for one academic year abroad and provide funding for round trip transportation, tuition and fees, room, board, some educational supplies, and language training (if necessary), up to a maximum of $25,000 or its equivalent (not including support provided by local hosts during the term of the scholarships). These scholarships are generally awarded to college students for post-graduate studies.
Also available are Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships, which provide funding for three months of intensive language study and cultural immersion in another country, including transportation, tuition and home-stay expenses, up to a maximum of #12,000. Those scholarships have most recently been granted to teachers, counselors and other professionals for training (commonly language) used in their careers in local areas (e.g., ESL and other related matters).
Finally, this year there is an additional scholarship available under the Rotary Foundation Program for world peace and understanding, which provides 70 scholarships worldwide, specifically for master's degree programs in academic pursuits relating to peace initiatives.
For more information and applications, please contact Bill Black, or visit the Rotary Web Site at www rotary .org. The deadline this year for receipt of complete applications is
The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships program is the world's largest privately sponsored international scholarship program. Focused on humanitarian service, personal diplomacy, and academic excellence, the program has sponsored more than 30,000 Rotary Scholars abroad since it began in 1947.
