Family of Rotary
Family of Rotary: More emphasis has been given to the Family of Rotary this year. Club members are being constantly reminded to invite their friends, spouses and family to attend club meetings and participate in club projects. We continue to involve spouses of deceased Rotarians in our activities. One large project this year, Four-Way Test-based Ethics Training utilized 25 Rotarians and 14 Friends and Family.
Community Service
District Simplified Grant: A grant for $2,000 with an additional $1,000 from the club for a total of $3,000 to Silver Key of Colorado Springs (outreach to elderly) for durable medical equipment.
Symbol of Freedom Flag Program: New fundraising effort in which we partner with a Boy Scout Troop who places American flags in neighborhoods on patriotic holidays. 415 total subscriptions thus far with 248 sold this year.
Work day at Family Life Services: Twelve members of the club, including our exchange student, worked to renovate a couple buildings and clean the grounds for this
Zoo Train: A joint project with other
Charlie Closson Memorial Golf Tournament: 73 golfers participated in this annual event that benefits the Ronald McDonald House in
Community Partnership for Child Development (Adopt a Family):
Elder Outreach: In conjunction with Silver Key, the club provided support to elderly persons in our community through Meals on Wheels delivery and other weekly services.
Rotary Centennial Project: In conjunction with the Colorado Springs East Club, we are initiating a Rotary Centennial Project which will be a permanent contribution to the City of Colorado Springs Confluence Park. Early plans include a riparian garden, local plantings, and an associated footpath and bridge. Rotary will receive prominent attribution. We anticipate this will lead to a continuing hands-on park maintenance partnership in the future.
Vocational Service
Nifty Fifty Award: In recognition of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the North Club, this award is a weekly recognition of individuals (except Rotarians or their children) in the
Police and Fire Recognition: quarterly recognition to conspicuously outstanding service from local firefighters and police personnel.
Outstanding Educator Recognition: quarterly Club recognition (with a $50 cash award) to outstanding teachers in our community.
Outstanding Student Recognition: The Club recognizes an outstanding student from
International Service

Mayor's International Award: The North Club is especially proud of having received recognition by the City of
Wheelchair Delivery to
Exchange Student: Several Rotarians from the North Club welcomed Brooke McHugh, an Australian high-school exchange student, into their homes in support of this important Rotary program.
GSE Team
Sister Club in India: The Board recently approved a Sister-Club Agreement with the Madras South Rotary Club through our friendship with Mr. Jay Araman, a member of the sister club in India.
Melghat Project: We continue to participate in an ongoing 3H project in the Melghat tribal area in the northeast corner of the
Youth Service
District Simplified Grant: $1,453 [plus $1,000 from the club] to provide resident camp and day camp opportunities to girls who are from low socio-economic areas that would not otherwise had the opportunity to go to camp.
YMCA: Donated $1,000 to YMCA of
"Service Above Self" Award: Started July 2003, awarded annually to a college student at UCCS who has manifested the principle of "Service Above Self" during their lifetime. The Chancellor's office nominated two students and the Club selected the recipient. The student will receive $1,000 cash - $500 to the charity of their choice and $500 to be used in any way they choose. This money is raised weekly through fines, auctions and other efforts of the Sergeant at Arms and gives a valid purpose for weekly collections of monies.
Ronald McDonald House: Fifteen members and partners participated in a workday at Ronald McDonald House: painting and retrofitting a storage building.
Ambassadorial Scholarships: We've formed a partnership with
4 Way Test Ethics Awareness Training: The club organized and presented a program to 525 ninth grade students, exposing them to 3 hours of ethics training over a three day period. The training involves materials developed locally as well as by the Fort Collins Rotary Club. As a result of the initial training,
Literacy,
Sky High Ranch: paint-up, fix-up work at the Girl Scout camp near Deckers,
Champions Recognition: in conjunction with television station KRDO and the other Rotary Clubs in
Rotary Scholarship Support: The North Club has instituted a new and continuing relationship with the leadership of the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs. We work with the Chancellor's office to recognize and nominate promising candidates for the various Rotary-funded scholarships and exchange programs.
Support for Odyssey of the Minds World Finals: The North Club, through the efforts of one of our newer members, provided $500 to support Widefield's North Elementary students at the world finals of the Odyssey of the Mind competition at the

Club Service
Visitor Follow-up Program: Sergeant at Arms created a short form that captures contact information for visitors attending our meetings. This information is sent via email to the club president who then sends a brief thank you email - usually the same day.
STAR Committee - Special Training for Action in Rotary: This new program is designed to mentor new members into an effective and productive relationship with the North Colorado Springs Rotary Club. New members attend monthly hour-long educational meetings led by past presidents of the Club.
