Interact is a Rotary sponsored service club for young people. Made up of members ages 14-18 or secondary school age, Interact gives young people an opportunity to participate in fun, meaningful service projects. Along the way, Interactors develop their leadership skills and initiative while meeting new friends. Although Rotary sponsors Interact and offers guidance to the students, Interact clubs are self-supporting and self-governing.

The Rotary Club of Oakland #3 is proud to sponsor the Interact Club of Oakland Technical High School as well as the Interact Club of Emeryville High School.
On Sunday, October 17, 2010, the Interact Committee of Oakland #3 took seven (7) Interactors down to the District 5170 Interact Leadership Conference in Cupertino.  The theme for 2010-2011 wasLead By Example. This wasthe 4th year that we have been at this conference, and it continues to get bigger every year, growing from about 600 students in 2007, to 1700 students in 2010.

There are currently more than 6,000 students in close to 100 clubs in our district alone. Rotary International has invited Interact 5170 to conduct the official Interact Workshop at the past 5 Rotary International Conventions.  Interact District 5170 is considered the model worldwide.  For pictures of the Leadership Conference, click here FLC Pictures.
Each year, the District chooses an International Project.  In 2007-2008, it was International Action for Children. Their goal was to raise $50,000 - $25K went to refurbish a school in Ghana, $20K went to Panama to refurbish a daycare center for working mothers, and $5K when to Tibet for tuberculosis prevention and nutritional education.  They raised $60,000.  In 2008-2009, the project was HydrAid.  The goal was to raise $50,000 and send 8,000 water filters to the Dominican Republic - they raised $80,000 in a recession.  In 2009, the project was End Polio Now.  Their goal was $100,000, and they raised $75,000.
The international project for 2010-2011 was ShelterBox.  Their goal wasto raise $50,000.  Please click on ShelterBox Video (it is the video in the middle on top) to see the video that the Interactors created to introduce the 2010-2011 International Project for Interact District 5170.  The ShelterBox representatives were so impressed with the Interactors that they placed this video on their website.
In 2010, for the first year, the District chose a community service project.  It wasHunger Relief.  The Interact Clubs worked with food banks across Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Alameda Counties to achieve 100,000 volunteer hours at the food banks.  They also worked to raise money as well.
