The heart and muscle of Oakland Rotary lies within its committees.  That is where work is defined, camaraderie is built, and where the Rotary motto of "Service above Self" really happens.

The Community Economic Development team has been inspired with the prospect of being able to identify and produce job opportunities for formerly incarcerated Ceasefire clients. By focusing on both public safety, and local small businesses, we are positioning ourselves in a unique and critical supporting role in the revitalization of Oakland.

Holds a three-day camp in Aptos for high school juniors from Oakland schools. The goal is to teach them about business, free enterprise, and themselves.  Committee meetings start in the fall and increase in frequency during the two months prior to the camp.
   
HOPE (Help Oakland Pupils Excel)

Provides mentoring to a select group of middle school and high school students. If the students meet certain grade and attendance requirements and satisfy other criteria through the end of high school, they receive scholarship funding for post-secondary education.
 
InterAct

Saroni-Lena Scholarships

Awards college scholarships to deserving Oakland high school seniors. The application and consideration process takes place in the spring. During the rest of the year, committee members serve as advisors  to scholarship recipients. Each committee member is responsible for one or two students.
 
KinderPrep

Provides materials, supplies, field trips, classroom volunteers, enriching experiences, and program support to the Transitional Kindergarten program of the Oakland Unified School District.

International Youth Exchange

Provides hands-on trade skills to students in the Laney College building-trades program. Through a partnership with Rotary, Laney, and the City of Oakland, students construct a low-cost home, which is sold to fund future projects that support the development of these students’ hands-on skills.
