iServe
Rotary District Matching Grant $3880.00

The Braselton Rotary Club applied for a District Matching grant in the amount of $3,880 for the purchase of food for displaced students in areas of Jackson County where USDA grants are not eligible. The District agreed to adjust the prior year’s grant approval to allow for the extraordinary circumstances resulting from the spread of COVID 19.  Jackson County schools has one of the largest free/reduced meal percentages in Georgia, and were seeking programs to assist with feeding of children displaced from schools during this time. Residents in certain parts of the county were eligible for standard USDA grants for free/reduced meals, however poorer students in the West part of the county were not eligible for free/reduced meals due to the higher median income in the area. To meet the needs of the children in this area, Braselton Rotary is spending a total of $7,760.00 (including the $3,880 from District 6910) to purchase food through iServe Ministries.  iServe is coordinating meals for these students and the school system is providing delivery.  It is a coordinated effort between School System, non-profit service provider, and Rotary.

Rotary International 2018-2019 Presidential Theme

Be the Inspiration

District governors-elect got their first look at the 2018-19 presidential theme, Be the Inspiration, at the International Assembly, the annual training event held in San Diego in January. RI President-elect Barry Rassin urged the audience to build a stronger organization by inspiring young people and by spreading the word in their communities about the work Rotary does. “I will ask you to inspire with your words and with your deeds,” he said, “doing what we need to do today to build a Rotary that will be stronger tomorrow, stronger when we leave it than it was when we came.”
One source of inspiration, Rassin said, has been Rotary’s work to eradicate polio. He described the incredible progress made in the past three decades: In 1988, an estimated 350,000 people were paralyzed by the wild poliovirus; in 2017, just 22 cases were reported. “We are at an incredibly exciting time for polio eradication,” he said, “a point at which each new case of polio could very well be the last.”

Maney Hall of Fame

MANEY INDUCTED INTO NORTHEAST GEORGIA BUSINESS HALL OF FAME

Three new members of the Northeast Georgia Business Hall of Fame will be inducted Saturday at the Chattahoochee Country Club in Gainesville.

The ceremony will take place during Junior Achievement of Northeast Georgia’s Business Hall of Fame Gala.  The annual event highlights the careers and public service of the honorees, who are selected based not only on their business accomplishments, but for their extensive support of the community.

Paul Maney - Although his roots are planted in Iowa, Paul has lived in Georgia for over four decades. During that time, he has become a devoted community member and philanthropist.  A retired IBM executive, Paul now finds fulfillment in his real estate investments and ownership of several North Georgia-based small businesses.

All proceeds go toward funding Junior Achievement programs in Northeast Georgia.  According to a press release, this academic year more than 8,000 students will be served by specially trained corporate volunteers in our area, teaching youth the fundamentals of free enterprise, business ethics, personal economics, and workforce development.

Project Lousiana Flood Relief

Lousiana Flood Relief
Chad Bingham lead a team with several trucks and trailers to provide flood relief to the residents of the Baton Rouge area in cooperation with the Rotary Club of Baton Rouge.  The caravan delivered 8,000 to 10,000 pounds of food and water to a church, the food bank, hospital and salvation Army.
The project was supported by the Mill Creek High School Interact Club, the Rotary Club of Winder, Rotary Club of Jefferson and the Rotary Club of Gainesville

Braselton Rotary Club Provides Relief for Louisiana Flood Victims

Braselton Rotary President Chad Bingham and the club's liaison to the Mill Creek High School Interact Club, Carolyn Smith, assisted Interact members in loading the donations collected at the school to be delivered to Baton Rouge and Youngsville, Louisiana, after the recent disastrous flooding.

Mill Creek High School Interact Club members sort the items collected during a school-wide drive to help victims of the recent flooding in Louisiana. Jon Howell of the Jefferson Rotary Club and Chad Bingham of the Braselton Rotary Club loaded the donations of much-needed cases of water and clothing, toiletries and other items collected by the Jefferson Club. Ryan Jerrald of Ace Comfort Heating and Air, who donated his time to the relief effort trip, and Braselton Rotary Club president Chad Bingham loaded up Jerrald's trailer at one of the donated Premier Storage units.

Braselton Rotarians and Boys & Girls Clubs of Jackson County volunteers help to load one of the four trucks and trailers bound for Louisiana packed with relief aid donated by four Rotary Clubs, the Mill Creek Interact Club, West Jackson Elementary School, Jackson County Comprehensive High, local businesses and individual families.

Donations were staged at two units at Premier Storage in Flowery Branch and then loaded into four trucks with trailers for the delivery ride to Louisiana on Sept. 26.  For Braselton Rotarians, it was all hands on deck for this "Act of Kindness" project to aid victims of the recent Louisiana floods.

.
Arrival at the Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank found the four drivers, Chad Bingham, Ronnie Jones, Blair Marshall and Ryan Sherrold greeted by thankful Rotarians and volunteers helping with the relief effort.

The Georgia delivery team with representatives at the First Baptist Church of Youngsville, which served as a relief station for local families.

The gratitude of having in-person delivery of much-needed items including bottled water and food as well as clothing and toiletries was overwhelming. Braselton Rotary President Chad Bingham said, "They appreciated it so much more than us just writing a check."

High School Scholarship Opportunity

The Rotary Club of Wrexham Erddig. D.1180 U.K. http://www.werc.org.uk/ is inviting two Georgia young people to stay with them for two weeks in July, 2016.  The student should be 18/19 years old, and ideally would not have been to the U.K. previously.  Their  club would cover the cost of transport from Manchester England, and food and accommodation during their stay.  The chosen students would arrive at Manchester Airport on or about June 28/29 and return on or about July 12/13th.  Accommodation would be with a Rotary family upon arrival, and thereafter at GLYNDWR UNIVERSITY Student Accommodation in Wrexham, (www.glyndwr.ac.uk) for about 10 days. The final few days of their stay would again be with a Rotary family.
The visit is timed to coincide with the world famous LLANGOLLEN INTERNATIONAL MUSIC FESTIVAL (July 4-9). The students would be transported the 10 miles or so to Llangollen, which would give them the opportunity to mix with visitors from all over the world. see http://international-eisteddfod.co.uk/
See complete Details below.  Application is available from GRSP and must be submitted by April 15, 2016.  This scholarship opportunity is available to anyone, including Rotary family members.
