Sep. 23, 2017 11:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.
Mother Nature just does not want us to have a picnic. It's going to be another rainy one this Saturday so we're calling time on the Summer Picnic.
BUT...
What's the other all-American, family-friendly get together? Bowling! And bowling is notoriously held indoors and is therefore impervious to rain! So this Saturday we're heading to Elsie's in Northeast Minneapolis to hit the lanes.
The details:
This Saturday, September 23rd. 11am-2pm
Elsie's
729 Marshall St. NE
Minneapolis, MN 55413 $4.95 per game
$3.00 shoe rental
Appetizers provided.
Bring the kids, bring some friends, and let's roll!
PS - an RSVP email to Meg Waterman would be appreciated so we can gauge how many lanes and apps to get.

Volunteers support 4-6 students as they create their personal budget.

Reading Partners Twin Cities: a community-driven solution to the literacy achievement gap.
Oct. 11, 2017
Karen Casanova, Senior Vice President of Development for Reading Partners will talk about their program, a local COL partner through our Community Service Committee. Reading Partners mobilizes communities to provide students with the proven, individualized reading support they need to read at grade level by fourth grade. Reading is the foundation for all future learning, and the ability to read transforms lives and empowers children and communities to reach their full potential. Research shows that students who read at grade level by fourth grade have a greater opportunity to succeed in school and in life. Reading Partners connects with under-resourced schools and engages volunteer reading partners to work one-on-one with students who struggle with reading. An evidence-based and community-driven organization, they recruit and train volunteers to work one-on-one with students for 45 minutes twice a week, following a structured, research-based curriculum. Reading Partners' program model works and is backed by evidence-based research which proves their students make significant gains in reading. On average, Reading Partners’ students more than double their rate of learning while in the program. |

The American Dream
Dec. 13, 2017
We are not born with a right to the American Dream, we rather are born only with the right to pursue it. It is also not a static place that one gets to. It has to be earned with hard work and sacrifice and continuously guarded, lest it gets away from us. Do not let anyone tell you that the American Dream is dead, we might have lost our way a bit and unwilling to pay the full price for it, it is always been there for the taking. My story is simple, I came to America at age thirteen and since have come to own the entire arc of the American experience and I would like to share it with you. |
