Guests: 16 Rotarians were joined by Guests Agus Sancho, Rotary Youth Exchange student from Argentina, and Claudia and Allan Brown (speakers)

In a change of order, our speakers showed a video during dinner, then gave their presentation and answered questions.
Our speakers were Claudia and Allan Brown, from the Jonathan Brown Foundation, in memory of their son Jonathan. The Foundation’s goal is to support families impacted by childhood cancer.
Allan told us about Keaton’s House, a pediatric hospice to be built in Dundas and serve 20 communities. Paul Paletta donated $5M and the City of Hamilton made the land available. Care will be provided by McMaster Children’s Hospital and the Bob Kemp Care Network. Their foundation is supporting the creation of a dedicated teen space at the hospice, catering for the older age group. The price tag/goal is $250,000.
To fundraise for Jonny’s Teen Room, they are hosting Jonny’s Gold Ribbon Gala on Saturday November 9 at 5:30 at Hamilton Convention Centre. Tickets are $175. There will be fine dining, entertainment, auction, raffles and live entertainment.

  1. President Brenda presented her kudos to the team who attended the Farmer's Market (Karen, Craig, Diandra, Agus and Sue), and to Amber for doing her first Rotor for the last meeting.
  2. Paul Harris Night is now going to be Monday November 4 (instead of September 30).
  3. Zobia is now available Monday nights and is looking for volunteers for the International Service Committee – please contact her at jawedz@mcmaster.ca if you’d like to be involved.
  4. Karen made a series of Community Service Committee announcements. Please contact Karen at goalies3mom@gmail.com or Diandra at diandra.camilleri@outlook.com to help with any Community Service events (items 5-9).
  5. Karen reminded the Club that we are responsible for helping at the Flamborough Food Bank the 4th Wednesday night each month, from 6:30 to 8 PM. Please contact Community Service if you would like to be put on the roster.
  6. Karen also reminded us that one Rotarian needs to attend the 3rd Tuesday of the month for WDHS Parent Council – please contact Community Service if you are available to attend, either regularly or on a rotating basis.
  7. Saturday October 26 is the Scarecrow Walk and Community Service is looking for interested Rotarians to hand out candy. Costumes are optional!
  8. Community Service is also asking for volunteers for handing out candy at Garden Court on Hallowe’en Night.
  9. Karen directed members’ attention to the mental health magnets on the tables, which were also handed out at the Market on Saturday. Please contact Community Service with your ideas about where else could we leave them or hand them out
  10. President Brenda sent out an email about the Strategic Plan. More Rotarians who responded were in favour than against, so Brenda is going to invite Bob Morrow out.

Happy $ - Birthdays/Anniversaries/Good news 
 
Craig joined the Armed Forces 49 years ago, after attending the Royal Military College. He attended his anniversary reunion this past weekend and is now officially in the “Old Brigade”. They had 92 alumni return to Kingston this past weekend and Craig was able to re-connect with some old friends.
Norm has 2 happy bucks – First of all, last Wednesday, they moved from a house to a condo and he and Barb are still talking. Secondly, Norm is going to Western for his 50th Homecoming next weekend.
Brenda is happy for Dan, who got a new car today.
Irene is grateful to Karen for the excursions – they and Amber went horse riding last week. Irene has also booked a trip to Antarctica.
Nick joined our Club 19 years ago this week and is grateful to Wendy Hickey for inviting him out.
Jeff Partridge wanted to thank our Club for donating to the Food with Grace Food Bank – they were able to hand out 46 back-to-school backpacks.
Michelle gave a grumpy buck – she broke her foot at the gym but she will probably only have to wear her boot for about 4 weeks.
 
50/50 draw (+/- $200 in the pot) – President Brenda won the draw and picked the 4 of Hearts
