Due to the weather and lack of parking on John Street, the meeting was changed to online. Diandra Camilleri, Community Service Co-chair provided a presentation on the committee's focus. She mentioned that the budget has grown by 88% over the last 5 years and is now up to $42,000. The committee considers requests from the community and has about $17,000 left for this year to distribute. They support the Flamborough Food Bank, BIA Scarecrow walk, Legion Remembrance Day activities, Senior's Corn Roast and Christmas Dinner as well as other local events. They are always looking for new members to join and for ideas from other club members.

 

Darryl Kirkland, Youth Services Committee chair said he has a well-established committee that oversee a smaller more focused budget. It is used for District Youth events such as Adventures in Citizenship, Leadership Camp as well as Youth Exchange programs. The committee also supports the Interact Club at Waterdown District High School and works with a teacher liaison. The budget is used to replace one football helmet per year, subsidize prom for some students in need, provide bursaries and support the Construction class with materials. The students in the class are making chairs and picnic tables for the community and last year made cutting boards which are available for purchase. Healthy snacks are provided before exams and awards at the annual SkateJam in Memorial park are also presented on behalf of the club.

 

Wendy Hickey thanked both Diandra and Darryl for their presentations and also all the members who contribute their time and talents to these and other endeavors.

 

There was a discussion about increasing the public image of the club with all activities and perhaps having signs in Memorial park indicating our club is responsible for the trees and lights.

 

Wilf Arndt reminded everyone to send him pictures and information about what we are doing so he can include it on the club website.
