ITEMS OF INTEREST
President Amber Kosubovich led the opening ceremonies with O Canada and the Land Acknowledgement. Garry Flood welcomed our guest and Gerry Aggus did the invocation.
President Amber thanked member Paul Durnan for laying the club's wreath at the Waterdown Remembrance Day ceremony, and Paul shared his experience with the club.
Nick Brown announced that the Ribfest committee met and discussed lessons from the 2023 festival.
The committee voted to proceed with the event in 2024 in partnership with the AM Flamborough club once again (split TBD).
Dates will be june 28 to July 1.
Nick will chair with Dan Posavad once again.
Based on the above, the club voted to support the 2024 festival (unanimous)
Youth Services chair Darryl Kirkland provided an update on the WDHS Interact Club activities, including a food drive, a clothing drive and the Let There Be Light program.
Darryl also provided an update on Food4Kids letter fundraising campaign - last year it raised $4,000. Darryl has the list of Chamber of Commerce Members, and urged club members to approach local businesses where they have a contact to support this worthwhile program.
Garry Flood provided an update on the student exchange program - 4 local families have offered to host; Gerry, Lena, Garry and Sue went to Grades 10 and 11 classes at WDHS to seek applications. So far, there has been interest in short-term exchanges, but no applicants for the long-term exchange.
Garry is also looking after applications for the Youth to Youth event organized by the District's HIP committee - deadline is Dec. 1 for the March event in Mission, BC.
