Highlights
 
On June 9th, 2025 the Rotary Club of Waterdown Celebrated it's 70th anniversary at a Gala event at the Hamilton Convention Centre. Many Rotarians, community partners and special guests enjoyed a wonderful evening including drinks, dinner and special messages and memorabilia.
June 23rd was our exchange student, Agustina Sancho's last official meeting with the club as she will be returning to Argentina on July 11th. Youth Exchange Officer, Amber Kosubovich presented her with flags from Ontario, Canada and our club banner. All guests enjoyed a cake to mark the occasion. 
Assistant District Governor Russ Powers presented the new Club President Kevin Smoke and inducted him and the Board members for next year. Outgoing President Brenda Jefferies thanked everyone for a great year and Kevin also thanked Brenda for her outstanding work and for the trust everyone is placing in him as the new president.
We were all entertained by a slideshow summarizing the 2024-2025 Rotary year presented by secretary Kim Piper.

Items of Interest
  1. President Brenda presented her kudos to Darryl Kirkland for arranging and handing out healthy snacks at the high school before exams. Also to Wilf Arndt for his King George the 3rd medal.
  2. Brenda also announced that sadly we have received a resignation from Craig Wood as he will be travelling more and is not able to commit his time to Rotary.
  3. Amber announced that we need 2 more host families for incoming student from Italy, Giorgia. Please consider hosting her for up to 3 months from February to July, 2026. She is an only child and used to being with adults only. Contact Amber for more information.
  4. Norm Read presented the Club Service budget and proposed budget for next year which was accepted by all in attendance.
  5. Nick Brown thanked those who helped to load the RibFest trailer. He also thanked Margot Rae and Karen Matthews for playing Bucky at the Farmer's Market and Fortinos the last 2 weekends to promote RibFest. He announced that Michael Collette is looking for an assistant with the parking lot as per an email previously sent. If you can help please contact Nick or Michael. He encouraged everyone to be ready for the weekend at RibFest!
  6. Nick also reported on the recent golf tournament and thanked those that donated to the live auction including Lena Aggus, Wendy Hickey and George Tadross. The tournament raised $22,000 for the club.
  7. Kevin Smoke announced that the club needs a new Membership Chair for the next year. If interested please speak to him.
  8. Diandra Camilleri made a motion to the club to support Flamborough Archives with a summer student for 7 weeks for $3612. This was seconded by Sue Collins and passed unanimously. 
  9. George Tadross announced that Flamborough Connects is looking for volunteers. Contact him for more information.

Nic Freeman's daughter celebrated her 9th birthday on June 9th.
Norm had 3 happy bucks: his 32nd club anniversary, his birthday June 21st and upcoming left knee replacement will be in August.
Sophie Blain was happy to get to know Agus and to attend her last club meeting.
Agus was happy to be with everyone and enjoyed her year in Waterdown.
Sue was surprised by daughter Rosie joining her at the Club Anniversary Gala and for all those that helped keep it a secret.
Wilf was happy to receive the King Charles the 3rd medal.
Pete Ronalds recently celebrated a birthday and anniversary.
Connor is happy that it is summer break.
Nick is happy that his daughter Jenna recently graduated from the University of Toronto and will be staying in Toronto working for the Greater Toronto Hotel Association on a 6 month contract.
 
50/50 draw ($116 in the pot) – Pete won the draw and picked the 5 of clubs.
