Program

Sue Collins introduced Michael Collette as being known for the man who kept the Terry Fox Run going in Waterdown. Michael has been working with the Food4Kids committee and presented a fundraiser to help make the program self-sufficient and not requiring additional funds from the 2 Rotary clubs in town. It originally started with providing food to 8 children in Waterdown schools and has progressed to providing Wal-Mart cards to 28 children and that is likely to continue to grow. The budget for Food4Kids is about $28,000 per year.

The fundraiser will be held on Saturday, July 19th, 2025 and includes a car scavenger hunt, dinner at West Avenue Cider catered by Cascata and entertainment. Garry Flood spoke about the car rally portion which will run from 3-6 pm and is being organized by Flood Brothers Amazing Adventures. It includes: 1) Scavenger Hunt, 2) Amazing Adventure and 3) Teamwork. They have successfully organized many such events for groups over the years.

Tickets are $200 for the full day or $150 for just the dinner and entertainment. The goal is to sell 25 of each. Tickets will be available online and local businesses will also be approached to consider buying tickets for staff.

May 9, 1960: The club agreed to sponsor a Bicycle Rodeo at the Victoria Day Festivities.

President Brenda presented her kudos to Garry Flood and Sue Collins for stepping up to organize the POD and to the Trivia Night committee for a fun night.
ADG Russ Powers brought greetings from the District and announced that there will be a Great Lakes watershed clean up in Dundas Friday, April 25th beginning at 4:30 PM, meeting at the Air Force Club. Watch your email for more details.
Bob Bruce gave a brief report on the District Conference that he attended with Nan Bruce and he was grateful to have Sophie Blain, outgoing exchange student in the car to help them find the location. He said that Rotarian Martina Bainbridge spoke about how she was invited to Rotary by Wendy Hickey and it meant so much to her to be a Rotarian for all these years because of that invitation. She encouraged us all to ask people. Bob also said it is essential for clubs to have an up to date website.
Sue spoke about the club 70th anniversary dinner which will be held at the Hamilton Convention Centre on Monday, June 9th. The Committee is also working on free ice cream for the community initiative and information about the history of the club. She passed around books from when our club did a writing contest.
Jeff Partridge announced that our club will hold a Bike Rodeo at Memorial Park on August 23rd. He is looking for anyone interested in helping.
Margot Rae thanked everyone involved with Trivia Night and for the donations of wine. She especially thanked Norm Read for his art donations to the silent auction that raised about $900. There will be a brief fundraising huddle after the meeting to discuss the upcoming Allan Cup hockey tournament.
Nick Brown read a thank you email from a participant at the Trivia Night and reminded everyone of the Golf Tournament on May 28th and the RibFest committee meeting on April 13th.
Darryl Kirkland announced that Victoria Smoke will be the student going to Ottawa for the Adventures in Citizenship.
Diandra Camilleri asked for club approval for the Lillicrop student bursaries for 10 youth. $2000 will come from youth services and $8000 from community services budgets. The motion to approve came from Garry Flood and was seconded by Michael Collette and everyone was in favour.
Diandra also announced that the "If I had $1000" campaign is underway. The deadline for applications is May 30th and she is looking for volunteers to help review applications and to hang up posters around town.
Karen Matthews said to save the date for A Run for Chris which we will support again and it will be on Aug. 17th. She also gave kudos to Michelle and Margot and herself for removing the Christmas lights from the trees around the skating loop and said that next year they will need some type of boom lift to reach the trees.

Happy $ - Birthdays/Anniversaries/Good news

Amber 6 year club anniversary.

Brenda 7 year club anniversary.

Karen celebrated her son's birthday and that he bought a house and her daughter being done school.

Darryl was happy to join Jeff Kleven's trivia team and to sell tickets with him and that Wendy invited him and daughter Sophie for dinner and that George Tadross did a great job with the trivia questions.

Jeff K is back from recent trip to Florida where he visited the Fort Lauderdale Rotary club and he recently was informed that he broke the Canadian record for Individual Medley, a goal he set for himself in swimming.

Nan is happy that our club eliminated fines and adopted happy bucks instead

Russ was happy that he did so many make-up meetings at our club over the years and that his grandson graduated from business at Laurier and will be attending Teacher's College in Cape Breton.

Kevin was happy his trivia team tied for first place.

Keley (prospective member) is happy to be here and that his twin siblings turned 50 last week.
