President Kevin Smoke opened the meeting with the Land Acknowledgement, Garry Flood led us in the 4-Way Test, Gerry Aggus gave the invocation and and Darryl Kirkland welcomed our guest.
Club Secretary Kim Piper introduced a motion to support 5 International projects. (Donations over $1,500 require club approval). Seconded by Norm Read, approved by members.
$2,000USD to support a Global Grant for a school washroom program in Kenya.
Tanzania rainwater project - Phase 3 - Rotary Club of Dunnville project - $3,500.
Operation Eyesight - Africa and South Asia - $2,000.
Malawi Water for Life - $2,000.
El Hogar - Honduras $1,500.
Additional International project approved by the board included $1,000 to Let there Be Light; $1,000 to Shelterbox Canada and $1,000 to World Central Kitchen.
Nick Brown provided an update on the Flamborough Open - still need donations for the live auction. Tourney takes place May 27 at Flamborough Hills.
Exchange student Giogio Pezzotti provided an update on the recent Inbound/Outbound event in Jamestown, NY.
Community Service Chair Karen Matthews proposed a motion to support the Museum of Hope with an $1,800 donation for a project with University of Guelph student to archive their item. Seconded by Michael Collette, approved.
The Dundas Valley Sunrise Club's drive-thru Rib and Lobsterfest is coming up June 6.
Program
Lena Aggus introduced guest speaker Keith Green. Keith, a former Rotarian in Hamilton, has had a wide and varied career, and recently wrote a novel based on his mother's experiences during the Second World War. The book, Into the Mystic, include some elements of Rosicrucian philosophy, alchemy and intrigue. Keith also enjoyed experimenting with AI to create the cover, character portraits and a movie trailer. Club members especially enjoyed the short video of his mom Eileen talking about her role during the war. Keith signed copies of the book after the meeting and donated $5 rom each purchase to the Club Service coffers.
