SHIP's LOG - SPECIAL EDITION

SHIP's Galley is expanding to include Tuesdays & Thursdays

The United Reformed Church in Somerville

Has graciously offered its facilities as a host site for SHIP Galley II (our new soup kitchen).

In order to make this happen we will need God's help and yours;

SHIP is in the process of expanding our SOUP KITCHEN from 3 to 5 days a week. Our Volunteer Crews at Ship's Galley I at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Somerville have served over 450,000 meals to those in need and the numbers requesting a meal have increased.

This is the first time since November 18, 1992 that we are able to offer and seek additional faith communities, organizations, groups and corporations the opportunity to help feed those in need of a meal in our community.

Days of operation will be Every Tuesday and Thursday, year round. Meals will be served from 12:30 noon to 1:30 PM.

There are no fees charged for any of SHIP's programs or services.

To date SHIP's Anti-Hunger Programs have served over 3,000,000 meals

10 Crews or groups are needed EACH CREW SHOULD CONSIST OF:

One captain & One co-captain to lead and organize crew.

The captain should appoint a volunteer to help coordinate the crew's activities, including procurement and delivery of the necessary food items.

8-12 volunteers - one male may be necessary per crew
Each Crew will pick 1 day per month as their day of service. Example the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th Tuesday or Thursday of the month. Groups unable to commit to a monthly day of service may choose the 5th Tuesday or Thursday as applies.
Ideally, 1 volunteer to remain in kitchen, 1 as a runner to supply serving line and 6 to serve.
No children sixth grade or younger are to volunteer without their parents or assigned adult.
No children are permitted to be in the kitchen.
Additional volunteers may choose to shop, prepare food, or deliver food.

8. SHIP's Galley II Crews will be asked to provide food for between 40 and 80 people per

serving day. SHIP will assist the groups if needed in securing the necessary

commodities needed of daily operations.

9. Training will be provided and Tom is available to come speak to your faith community or group about

this exciting opportunity to serve the less fortunate among us.

10. During the summer months the Galley II Crews will be offered the option of using Tic Tock's Grove to

serve a summer picnic type or providing Brown Bag Lunches and taking the rest of the day off.
