Imagine writing the Bible, then writing a second one. That’s how many words Hal has written over the past 13 years in his “Ask Andy” Scouting advice columns, read in every U.S. state and around the world. Imagine personally visiting one-quarter of the world’s countries, on five continents. Hal’s been there. Imagine being an active Rotarian, Freemason, volunteer Scouter, business owner, and still finding time to write the manuscript for a young adult novel. District Governor Hal’s done it.

 

Tenacious squash player, tournament-level indoor badminton player-coach, former Olympics official, skier, multiple Who’s Who listee, blood donor for four decades, and Eagle Scout Hall-of-Famer, Hal simply refuses to be ordinary.

 

DG Hal first served Rotary as Youth Services Chair in San Marino, CA for six years. Joining the Berkeley Heights Rotary Club in 2005, he was Club President for two back-to-back years, earning Presidential Citations both years and 100% Paul Harris Fellowship Club in the second. He has been Club Secretary since 2007. He is a double-Paul Harris Fellow and a TRF Benefactor. Hal has staffed nine consecutive district and multi-district PETS. When charged with directing a Membership Development Workshop in 2007, participation broke all records. The District’s Speakers Bank and Scouting Services initiative both sprung from Hal’s imagination and willingness to roll up his sleeves and make it happen. 

Hal is President of The Daumé Group, marketing consultants to Fortune 1000 clients. Before this, he was Managing Director of Research International, a $300 million global organization. His work has had direct bearings on the success of Mitsubishi Motors’ U.S. launch, PSEG’s corporate re-branding, Motorola’s whole-house DVR system, “800 Dentist,” the category breakthrough “Bacardi and…” ad campaign, and the national launch of Winchester “Train & Defend” personal protection ammunition. And he consulted with The Gartner Group (“Your Source for Technology Research and Insight”) to redesign and optimize their own website.

 

An Emeritus member of the American Marketing Association, Hal has served as an officer of two AMA chapters and director three others. For the Advertising Research Foundation, he has been a member of the Futures Committee and Market Measures Council. He has been an invited speaker at international conferences of the European Society for Opinion & Market Research. 

 

DG Hal is an Honorary Board Member of the Patriots’ Path Council-Boy Scouts of America. He is also a member of the BSA National Advancement Advisory Panel and consultant to their Survey Research Initiative. His most humbling moment was as a recipient of the Kashafa Iraqi Scouting Services Recognition for his helping American military personnel start grass-roots Scouting in Baghdad.

 

Hal’s wife, Linda (Sausville), is a former Language Arts teacher and present Rotarian. She is a Past Club President, Paul Harris Fellow and Benefactor, Deputy District Governor, Assistant Governor, and will be serving as her club's President for 2015-16. Hal and Linda reside in Berkeley Heights. New Jersey natives, Linda grew up in Mountainside and Hal in West New York. They have six children and four grandchildren.
