The Rotary Club of Branchburg helps more than 2000 families in the community with Rotary district grant and food collection to help local food bank to assist families who are struggling with food insecurities due to COVID-19.
The Rotary Club of Branchburg has utilized a $3,500 Rotary District Grant to purchase food from local food stores and collected additional food donations from local ShopRite stores to feed more than 2000 families and donated to the Somerset County Food Bank to assist with families who are struggling with food insecurities due to COVID-19.

The Rotary Club collected more than three trucks full of food from all Somerset County’s ShopRite stores this Saturday. All donated food and with grant fund, the club purchased additional food to be donated to the local food Bank.
The Rotary donation is part of a Rotary matching grant secured by the Branchburg Rotary Club. The club committed $2,000; with matches from the Rotary district, the Rotary and Rotaract clubs combined its grant funds to purchase additional food for the local food Bank. Branchburg Rotary spearheaded the effort to secure the district grant and current President John Shockley coordinated the food drive in cooperation with Somerville and Bound Brook Rotary clubs.

The RVCC Rotaract Club also spend $1,500 of the grant funds to help the Somerset County Food Bank to provide food for the local Somerset County residents to access food to the community’s less fortunate.

“The Somerset Food Bank is seeing a much-increased demand due to the high number of residents who have become unemployed during this crisis,” John Shockley, President of the Club said. “For $3,500, the Rotary club purchased food which can feed more than 2000 families. This would stretch out their supplies and truly help needy families who are really struggling with food insecurity due to COVID19.”

Rotary club of Branchburg and RVCC Rotaract members have been helping the local food Bank for the past 5 years. Due to increased demand at the food Bank the Branchburg Rotary club has been donating door every month. Recently the club also donated $5000 to purchase additional food for the Food Bank.

"We would like to thank all volunteers and local ShopRite stores for their dedication in helping families who are really struggling with food insecurity due to COVID19.” said the Food Drive Coordinator Diane Banano.
