CHICKEN FOR PROSPERITY
School dropout rates continued to increase due to family financial hardship in Nepal.
To address this problem The Rotary club of Branchburg created a project that will be sustainable and beneficial to the children and their families. Branchburg Rotary club launched a program in Nepal called “CHICKEN FOR PROSPERITY” during their 2019 Humanitarian mission to Nepal and distributed 2 chickens each to 100 families in this village to do a chicken farming. Chicken farming is known to be a very successful and profitable project in Nepal due to high demand for organic eggs and meat.
The overall goal for this project is to assist indigenous families in Barumchuli Rotary Village in Nepal to help overcome economic hardship by providing two chickens each to student’s families. By improving the family’s financial needs, families will be able to invest more money into feeding their families and children will not be required to work and therefore attend school.
This project was conducted during our Humanitarian Mission to Nepal in February 2019 with the help from the Rotary District 3292 Rotaract members and Village leaders in the community. More than 10 Rotaract members from Nepal and 5 village leaders participated in this project.
This Rotary Village was built after 2015 Nepal earthquake with the help of Rotarians around the world.
Our club has adopted their public school and has been distributing school supplies and other resources for the school. We will be also conducting an essay contest called “What I want to be when I grow up” later this year.
We hope that with this Chicken project school dropout will be reduced substantially and increase school participation.
